Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I'am residing at building no. 1 Falt no 1, I am writing this letter to bring your kind attention of the problem which me and family have been facing from last two weeks.
The problem was the family who resiging at Flat no. 2 adjacent to our flat always plays very loud video games at late night. These noises are really very disturbing and creates huge hindrances to our family. We have a new born baby in our family.
These kind of loud sounds especially during late night affects our baby's sleep and furthermore it also creates a huge disturbances in our sleep routine which ultimately results the next day routine.
I hereby humbly request you to kindly communicate to our neighbuor to keep their volumes a bit low while playing video games considering our family situation. It really help us to have a better sleep.
I look forward to hearing from you at the earliest.
Yours faithfully
Mr.Smith

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points: it says the noise began “from last two weeks,” explains that it disrupts the family’s sleep and the newborn baby’s sleep, and asks the agency to contact the neighbour about lowering the volume. The purpose and polite tone are clear. The request is relevant, but the account of when the problem began is brief, and the effects could be developed with a more specific example, such as how often the baby wakes or how the lack of sleep affects you the next day. The response therefore covers the task well overall, while some details remain less fully explained. To strengthen it further, make the timeline and impact more precise and state what follow-up you expect from the agency.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: the opening introduces the complaint, the next paragraphs describe the neighbour’s behaviour and its effects, and the final paragraph makes a request. This gives the letter a coherent overall shape, and phrases such as “furthermore” and “I look forward to hearing from you” help signal relationships and closure. However, the connection between the noise and its consequences is somewhat repetitive across the second and third paragraphs, and “These kind of loud sounds” does not clearly refer back in grammatically smooth fashion. Paragraphing is appropriate, but cohesion is occasionally mechanical. You could improve progression by combining the overlapping impact details and using clearer references, such as “This noise” or “As a result.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the complaint and its impact, with relevant phrases such as “very loud video games,” “new born baby,” and “sleep routine.” You also attempt more formal language, including “humbly request” and “at the earliest,” showing awareness of the letter’s purpose. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “bring your kind attention of,” “huge hindrances,” and “creates a huge disturbances” make parts of the message less fluent. There are also spelling errors such as “resiging,” “neighbuor,” and “Falt.” Aim for natural collocations rather than overly formal wording; for example, “bring this to your attention” and “causes considerable disruption” would express the ideas more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple statements and longer sentences, including a sentence that links the noise to its effects with “which ultimately results…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “I'am residing,” “the family … always plays,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “These kind of loud sounds … affects,” where both the demonstrative and verb form need adjustment. “It really help us” also needs subject–verb agreement, while “results the next day routine” lacks the required grammatical construction. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the complaint, but they reduce accuracy. Practise agreement, articles, and verb patterns, and proofread longer sentences by checking each subject and its verb.
