Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the rental apartment, I owned with the help of your agency. The problem started after five days of shifting, the neighbours' nature had changed, they played late night video games at strech in blare noise. They use high volume speakers which amplify the voice and creates noise polution.
As a consequence, it abrupted me studies, I have been doing work in the day merely I had free time at night to study. However, they did not allow me to study with concentration. It distrubed my study sechdule for the approaching competitive exam. I can not bear it any more.
I would therefore appreciate your efforts if you will take suitable steps to resolve the issue, by providing me a distinct accommodation in a peaceful society in the same price. On the other hand, giving a legeal notice to them to not to play games very loud after the hours fixed by the government. I will wait for your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Neha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points: you say the problem began “after five days,” explain that the noise prevents you from concentrating on your studies, and request either different accommodation or action against the neighbours. The purpose is clear and the requests are relevant. Some details, however, are not fully clear or developed: “after five days of shifting” does not specify five days after moving in, and the reference to “hours fixed by the government” is vague. Explain more precisely when the gaming starts and what practical action you expect the agency to take, such as contacting the neighbour or enforcing the tenancy rules. This would make the response more fully developed while retaining its clear purpose.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a sensible overall structure: the opening introduces the complaint, the next paragraph describes its effect, and the final paragraph makes requests. Connectors such as “As a consequence” and “I would therefore” help show the relationship between the problem and your requests. Some progression is less smooth within paragraphs, particularly where the opening moves from the start of the problem to the neighbours’ behaviour and then to the speakers. The final paragraph also presents two possible solutions in a confusing way, with “On the other hand” suggesting contrast rather than an alternative request. Separate the options clearly and use straightforward links such as “Alternatively.” Clearer sentence boundaries and references would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to a formal complaint, including “express my dissatisfaction,” “resolve the issue,” and “prompt response,” and you attempt more specific language such as “high volume speakers.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors sometimes make the message difficult to interpret: “strech in blare noise,” “abrupted me studies,” and “legeal notice” are unclear or inaccurate. Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “the neighbours’ nature had changed” and “distinct accommodation in a peaceful society.” Choose familiar, precise expressions rather than forcing uncommon wording—for example, say that the neighbours “began playing games loudly” and that the noise “disrupted my studies.” More accurate spelling and collocation would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “I would therefore appreciate your efforts if you will take suitable steps” and a sentence explaining how the noise affects your study schedule. The main message is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors make parts of the letter hard to follow. For example, “I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the rental apartment, I owned” joins clauses incorrectly and uses an unsuitable tense; “they played …” shifts tense when describing an ongoing problem; and “they did not allow me to study with concentration” has an awkward grammatical pattern. Review sentence boundaries, tense consistency, and clause structure. A few carefully controlled complex sentences would demonstrate range more effectively than long, error-prone constructions.
