Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing regarding the flat that I and my neighbour rent from your accomodation agency. I want to bring your attention to the issue that I am issuing because of my neighbour and would request your assistance to reslove this matter.
To begin with, I recently moved into a flat on rent through your accomodation agency. From last 2 weeks my neighbour has been playing loud video games late at the night.
The main reason is that I work at a restaurent in the morning and then take care of my studies at the night time, but due to load noise during the night time I am not able to concentrate on my studies properly. I am not even able to have good sleep because loud sound does not let me relax.
Finally, I would like to request you to please talk to my neighbourer regarding this issue as it is becoming hard for me to live in this flat.
I hope you will you consider my request and I will look forword to hear from you.
Yours faithfully
Dilpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that the noise has been happening for two weeks, describe its effects on your studies and sleep, and ask the agency to speak to your neighbour. The purpose is clear and the formal letter format is appropriate. The impact is supported with relevant details about working in the morning and studying at night. However, the opening is confusing when it says “the issue that I am issuing because of my neighbour,” and the requested action could be more fully specified—for example, asking the agency to remind the neighbour of quiet hours or its noise policy. This covers the task well overall, but some ideas and the proposed solution need clearer development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the opening states the purpose, the following paragraphs explain the timing and effects, and the final paragraph makes a request. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Finally” help guide the reader, and the closing is suitable for a formal letter. Some connections are less smooth, however. “The main reason is that” does not clearly introduce the effects of the noise, and the opening repeats the idea of requesting assistance before the specific request appears later. A more direct progression—from when the noise began, to its consequences, to the action you want—would make the cohesion less mechanical and the relationships between ideas clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation, including “loud video games,” “concentrate,” “good sleep,” and “assistance.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “accomodation,” “reslove,” “restaurent,” “load noise,” and “neighbourer.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “on rent” and “at the night time.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main complaint, but they make the letter less fluent and occasionally require interpretation. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; more precise language for the agency’s requested action would also strengthen the formal tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, and the main message remains understandable. For example, the sentence beginning “The main reason is that I work…” attempts to connect your work schedule, studies, and the effects of the noise. Some grammatical errors remain, including “I and my neighbour rent” (more naturally, “my neighbour and I rent”), “From last 2 weeks” (use “For the last two weeks”), and “I hope you will you consider,” which repeats the auxiliary. There are also awkward article and preposition patterns in “late at the night” and “at the night time.” Greater control of these sentence patterns, alongside varied but accurate complex sentences, would make the letter clearer and more polished.
