Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding the loud noise from the neighbour who
also rent their flat from your agency.
About one week ago, I faced this hurdle, and I tried to talk with them regarding this issue.
After that talk they low the volume of their video games but after three days they continued to make same noises. You know, everyone is working nowadays and my husband and I also work.
We have to go to work early in the morning, so we have to sleep early at night time, but they make the high volume of their video game, so we cannot sleep properly every night.
I recommend you please consult with them regarding the loud noises. It will be very helpful for us if you make these changes early.
Thank you for your consideration toward my letter
Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: the problem began about a week ago, the noise prevents you and your husband from sleeping before early work, and you ask the agency to speak to the neighbour. These details make the complaint relevant and understandable. However, the request is not fully developed: explain what action you expect, such as reminding the neighbour of quiet hours or following up if the noise continues. The opening also says you tried speaking to the neighbour, but the outcome could be clearer. The response is two words below the required minimum, so add a little more detail to develop your request and meet the task requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter follows a generally sensible order, moving from the complaint’s background to its effect and then to the requested action. Time markers such as “About one week ago,” “After that talk,” and “after three days” help the reader follow events. However, most of the content is presented in one continuous block, so the stages of the letter are not clearly separated. Some links are also repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “so” to connect the noise with its consequences. Use short paragraphs for the background, impact, and request, and vary the linking language to make the progression smoother and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main complaint, with relevant expressions such as “loud noise,” “video games,” and “sleep properly.” However, the range is limited and some choices sound unnatural or imprecise, which keeps the message from being consistently clear and idiomatic. For example, “faced this hurdle” is an awkward way to describe the start of a noise problem, while “make the high volume” does not express the idea naturally. “Make these changes” is also vague because the requested action is not named. Choose precise complaint-related phrases and avoid conversational fillers such as “You know” in a formal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use some longer sentence forms to explain the sequence of events and the effect on your sleep, including “We have to go to work early in the morning, so we have to sleep early at night time.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “the neighbour who also rent” needs subject–verb agreement, and “they low the volume” uses an incorrect verb form. In “they continued to make same noises,” the article is missing. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, and use a wider range of accurate sentence patterns rather than relying mainly on simple clauses joined with “so.”
