Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
With due to respect we have a problem at our home from our neighbours. we both have rented the flats from your agency, so our issue is that, since we shifted to this flate our neighbours play video games till late night with loud voice therefore we have problem in sleeping and we can't concentrate on work and studies. and also it has a nagetive affect on our children, like they always say that we should also play games till late night. so we kindly request you that tell our neighbours that finish your games early. if they don't listen to you and they come to their past routien; so then give them a notice to leave my flate. i think that they will stop if they don't so then give them a strict notice or try to connect with the police so they will help both of us.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address the main situation and make a request: you explain that the neighbours play games late, describe effects on sleep, work, studies and your children, and ask the agency to intervene. However, the task is only partially developed. “Since we shifted to this flat” gives a starting point, but it does not clearly say when the problem began. Your requested action is also not fully clear or proportionate: asking the agency to tell them to finish early is relevant, but the later demand to make them leave and contact the police is abrupt and lacks explanation. State a specific time or event when the noise started, then request a clear first step, such as contacting the neighbour and enforcing the building’s quiet-hours policy.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The letter follows a broadly understandable order: it introduces the problem, explains its effects, and then asks the agency to act. This gives the reader the basic message. However, most of the response is presented as one long block, and the ideas are joined by repeated “and,” “so,” and “therefore,” which makes the progression difficult to follow. The shift from asking the neighbours to finish early to demanding that they leave, then involving the police, is not clearly signposted. Separate the explanation, effects, and requested action into paragraphs, and use clearer links such as “As a result” and “If this continues.” This would make the letter’s organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the central issue, including “video games,” “late night,” “concentrate,” and “notice.” However, the range is limited, and several inaccurate or unnatural choices make parts of the letter harder to understand. For example, “with loud voice” is not a natural way to describe the noise, while “come to their past routien” obscures your meaning. Spelling errors such as “flate,” “nagetive,” and “routien” also reduce clarity. Build a small set of precise phrases for noise complaints, such as “excessive noise,” “quiet hours,” and “formal warning,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect several ideas in longer sentences, for example by using “since,” “therefore,” and “if,” but these structures are often faulty, and sentence boundaries are not controlled. The opening “With due to respect we have a problem” has an incorrect construction, and the long sentence beginning “since we shifted” combines several clauses without clear punctuation. There are also errors in verb forms and agreement, as in “tell our neighbours that finish your games” and “they don't listen to you and they come.” Most sentences therefore require effort to interpret. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then add one subordinate clause at a time; check subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and full stops.
