Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I trust this correspondence reaches you in good health. My name is Jasmeen Kaur and I am your tenant residing in apartment number 207 at george road, Vancouver, British Columbia.I am writing to mention about some problems I am facing at your place. The issue I am facing is from last month as my neighbour who is living in apartment 206 creates a lot of disturbance at night. He plays video games with his friends till late night.

Due to that, I face alot of trouble and I would not be able to sleep at night on time. This is the serious concern as I am a working proffessional and I have to wake up really early in the morning for my job. Moreover, I have tried communicating with him many times but his lack of understanding and co-operative nature creating a issue for almost all the individuals in the building.

I kindly request you to work upon this problem at your earliest convenience as I am loosing my health as well as my concentration on the work because of his careless attititude.I hope you will look into this matter and try to solve this problem by conducting a professional meeting with that person.

I look forward to have a positive response from your side!

Yours sincerely,

Jasmeen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three required points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose throughout. The timing is identified as “from last month,” the late-night gaming is described, and you explain its effect on your sleep, health, and work concentration. You also make a specific request for the agency to intervene by arranging a meeting. These details extend the main points and make the complaint actionable. To strengthen the response further, clarify the exact hours or frequency of the noise and specify a practical outcome, such as asking the neighbour to stop gaming after a stated time. The claim that the behaviour affects “almost all the individuals” is broad and would be more convincing with a specific example or a more cautious phrasing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the complaint, explain its effects, and then request action. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “Due to that” and “Moreover” help connect related points. The purpose remains easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however: “I am writing to mention about some problems” is followed by a repeated explanation of “the issue,” and the final paragraph combines your request, its consequences, and the proposed meeting in a long sentence. The closing also shifts abruptly from the request to a general hope for a response. Use more direct topic sentences and divide the final ideas into shorter, clearly linked sentences to make the progression more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of vocabulary relevant to a formal complaint, including “disturbance,” “lack of understanding,” “concentration,” and “at your earliest convenience.” This gives the letter an appropriately serious tone. However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “mention about” is not a natural combination, “at your place” is vague, and “loosing” and “attititude” are misspelled. “Professional meeting” is also an unusual description of the intervention you want. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “raise a concern,” “in my flat,” and “arrange a meeting with the tenant.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard complaint-related collocations would make your vocabulary more reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “as I am a working professional” and a sentence with “Moreover.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to affect fluency. For example, “his lack of understanding and co-operative nature creating a issue” lacks a finite verb, while “I would not be able to sleep” does not fit smoothly with the present description of an ongoing problem. There are also missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent punctuation, as in “British Columbia.I am.” Review complete clause structure, tense consistency, articles, and sentence boundaries. Breaking long sentences into shorter ones will help you control accuracy while retaining complex forms.
