Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing you to express my problem that i am facing from neighbour.
Recently, i moved in a flat which was recommanded by your agency last month. Intially, everything was going smoothly. There was no problem but after 1 week i started facing a problem. There is not any problem with the flat. The problem was coming from my neighbour and it flat is also rented by your agency.
I am facing to problem of loud voice because of my neignbour. After every midnight, my neighbour starts to play video game at very loud voice. This loud voice does not only affects my sleep but also having affects on my study as my exam is going to start from next week.
I would appericate you if you talk with them. Please ask them to low the voice of sound whenever they are playing the games. Or you may give them warning or ask them to pay panlity if they do this again.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerelly,
Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that the issue began about a week after moving in, describe the effect on your sleep and studies, and ask the agency to speak to the neighbour or issue a warning. The details about your exam next week make the impact personal and relevant. The request is understandable, but it could be more fully developed by asking the agency to investigate or contact the neighbour promptly, and by specifying what outcome you expect if the noise continues. The opening “Dear Sir” also does not follow the supplied “Dear Sir or Madam” greeting. Overall, the purpose is clear and the main points are covered, though some are less fully explained than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your ideas follow a sensible sequence: you introduce the complaint, explain when it began, describe the noise and its effects, and then make a request. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “Recently” and “After every midnight” guide the reader through the account. However, some links are repetitive or awkward, particularly the repeated use of “problem,” and “There is not any problem with the flat” interrupts the progression without adding much. The reference in “it flat” is also unclear. To make the organisation more fluent, remove unnecessary repetition and connect the timeline directly to the neighbour’s behaviour and its consequences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “neighbour,” “loud voice,” “video game,” “sleep,” and “study.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, which can make the letter less natural. For example, “express my problem,” “facing to problem,” and “low the voice of sound” do not express the complaint idiomatically. There are also spelling errors such as “recommanded,” “neignbour,” “appericate,” and “Sincerelly.” Aim to learn complete phrases for formal complaints and check spelling carefully; this will make your meaning clearer and your tone more appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The letter includes some attempts at longer structures, such as “This loud voice does not only affects my sleep but also having affects on my study as my exam is going to start from next week.” However, this sentence contains several grammatical problems, including incorrect verb forms and an awkward clause connection. Other examples include “i am facing,” where the pronoun should be capitalised, and “After every midnight,” which does not form a natural time expression. Most sentences remain simple, and errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. Practise building accurate sentences with “not only…but also,” and check subject–verb agreement and verb forms before submitting. Clearer sentence patterns will improve accuracy without requiring more complexity.
