Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Hesha Patel. And I am renting an appartment number 1008 at anton square homes from your agency and the person living next door in 1009 playing video games at a very loud voice at nights ans sometimes untill past midnights not only on weekend but also on weekdays. Which greatly affects my sleep and as I work mornings i require proper sleep and eventually i stay up till late due to noise and feeling sleepy at work. Which significantly affects my productivity and effeciency. As I am Registered nurse I have to work longer house mostly 12 hours and working not fully relaxed greatly affects my work and I would not want to make any mistake that could lead to adverse effects to any of patients.

Morover, not having proper sleep makes me feel frustated and makes me feel cranky to my family which is also not fair to them.

Hereby I would like to adress this issue and I am also felxible with only making less noise on weekdays and keep the enjoyment for weekend. Which will work great for both of us as I will have proper sleep during weekdays, work to my expectations. Also, they can also enjoy their favorite games.

Thank you very much for your time to this matter. And will greatly appericiate your help.

Best and kind regards,

Hesha.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three required points: you identify the neighbour and the late-night gaming, explain the effects on your sleep, work and family, and request a change to the noise pattern. The impact is supported with relevant detail, especially your long nursing shifts and concern about making a mistake with patients. Your proposed compromise—quieter weekdays and more freedom at weekends—also makes your position clear. To make the response more fully effective, state when the problem began; this required detail is missing. In addition, the request is framed mainly as an arrangement between you and the neighbour, rather than clearly asking the agency to contact the neighbour or take action. A direct, specific request to the agency would strengthen the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a recognisable progression from introducing the problem, to describing its effects, and then proposing a solution. Separate paragraphs help distinguish the personal impact from your suggested compromise, and the reader can follow the main message. This meets the lower-band expectation of an overall coherent arrangement and shows some movement towards more flexible organisation. However, several sentences are joined awkwardly or left as fragments, such as “Which greatly affects my sleep” and “And will greatly appreciate your help.” The repeated use of “Which” and “Also” makes connections feel mechanical, while the opening paragraph contains many ideas in one long sequence. Use complete sentences, clearer transitions, and a more conventional closing request to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range to explain the situation and its consequences, including “productivity,” “adverse effects,” and “flexible.” These choices help convey the seriousness of the noise and your willingness to compromise. Some less common vocabulary is attempted, but spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision and polish: examples include “appartment,” “effeciency,” “frustated,” and “appericiate.” A few expressions are also unnatural, such as “playing video games at a very loud voice” and “work to my expectations.” Prefer accurate, natural collocations such as “playing video games at a high volume” and “perform effectively at work.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard phrases would make your vocabulary more controlled and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex structures, including explanations of cause and effect and the conditional idea “Which will work great for both of us.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence-boundary problems make the writing less accurate. For example, “My name is Hesha Patel. And I am renting…” begins a fragment-like continuation, while “Which greatly affects my sleep” is not a complete sentence. The opening sentence also shifts between “the person … playing” and the surrounding present-tense description without a correctly formed verb. There are errors in articles and sentence construction, as in “as I work mornings” and “any of patients.” Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check punctuation and verb forms carefully.
