Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you about the issue which significantly bothers me. My neighbourhood flat rented from your agency plays late night video games with considerable amount of noise. I have been ignoring from past couple of weeks, however recently the noise levels have exceeded to a point which disrupts my sleep and hampers my productivity at office.
This loud noise has particularly affected my sleep wake cycles. Because of the late night music, I am not able to sleep well. As a result I wake up feeling drowsy and I am not able to focus on my work throughout the day.
I would request the agency to please communicate with them and come to a conclusion. You can ask them to play digital games at normal voice which does not affect anyone and particularly avoid playing videogames upto midnight as there are elderly people in the area which have similar issues with the neighbours. I hereby request you to please look into this matter and do the needful.
Yours Sincerly,
Sweety Edwankar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three required points and maintain a clear, appropriately formal purpose: you explain that the problem has been occurring for “the past couple of weeks,” describe its effects on sleep and work, and ask the agency to contact the neighbour. The impact is supported with relevant details, such as feeling “drowsy” and being unable to focus. Your request is also clear, although “come to a conclusion” is vague, and the reference to elderly people with similar issues is not explained or necessary. To strengthen the response further, specify a practical action, such as asking the neighbour to reduce the volume after a particular time, and develop the timeline more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the complaint, explains its personal effects, and then states what you want the agency to do. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking phrases such as “As a result” make the cause-and-effect relationship easy to follow. The repeated references to the noise also keep the topic clear. Some connections are less smooth, however: “I have been ignoring from past couple of weeks” does not clearly connect the duration to the recent increase in noise, and the final request combines several ideas in one long sentence. Use clearer transitions and separate the requested action from the additional comment about other residents to make the progression more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “disrupts my sleep,” “productivity,” and “affected my sleep wake cycles.” These choices communicate the problem and its consequences, and some attempts at more formal phrasing are evident. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “plays late night video games with considerable amount of noise,” “sleep wake cycles,” and “play digital games at normal voice.” “Do the needful” is also less natural in this context. Aim for precise, conventional collocations: for example, describe the neighbour as “playing video games at a high volume” and ask them to “keep the noise down.” Check spelling in “Sincerly” as well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the cause-and-effect construction “As a result I wake up feeling drowsy” and the relative clause “which does not affect anyone.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In “I have been ignoring from past couple of weeks,” the verb pattern and time expression are incorrect; write “I have been putting up with it for the past couple of weeks.” The sentence beginning “My neighbourhood flat rented from your agency” also has an unclear subject and missing grammatical structure. In “there are elderly people … which have,” the relative pronoun should refer to people, and the long final sentence would benefit from clearer punctuation. More accurate sentence construction would improve control.
