Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
I regret while writing this with great disappointment that the neighbours from same agency play video games till late night and it is too noisy that it disturbs sleep and comfortness as well.
I have been facing this issue for a month since these neighbours have started living here. Initially, it was until late evening but now it is becoming worse as days pass.
I am dwelling with my wife and two children. I am working in a morning shift during weekdays and my children also wake up early to go to school. Because of noisey environment, it creates hinderance in the sleep cycle and peace of mind.
I would be glad if you would take some essential actions towards this soaring concern such as you could inform them to maintain the decorum and decency in the flat. secondly you could also strictly let them know to play video games during weekends and that too only till 9:00 P.M.
I hope you understand my situation and try to resolve this problem. Thank you.
Regards,
Chintan Nayak

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, polite request throughout. You explain that the problem began when the neighbours moved in about a month ago, describe the effects on your sleep and your family’s early routines, and suggest that the agency speak to them and set limits on gaming. These details make the complaint relevant and supported. The requested action is clear, although the proposed weekend-only rule may be more specific than necessary and could be framed as a request for the agency to agree suitable quiet hours with the neighbours. To strengthen the response further, make the opening more direct and develop the impact briefly with a concrete example, such as how often the noise wakes you or your children.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: the complaint is introduced, its duration is explained, the effects are described, and a solution is requested. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “Initially” and “Because of” show some control of progression. However, the opening sentence combines the problem and its effects, making it less easy to process, while “secondly” is not clearly separated or capitalised as a new point. The closing also repeats the hope that the agency will resolve the issue without adding much. For stronger cohesion, use one clear purpose sentence at the start, link each paragraph to one task point, and use transitions selectively rather than mechanically.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “disturbs,” “sleep cycle,” “peace of mind,” and “maintain the decorum.” These choices communicate the situation, and the reader can understand the requested action. Some less natural or inaccurate expressions reduce precision: “comfortness” is not the appropriate noun here, “soaring concern” does not fit this context, and “noisey” is misspelled. “Essential actions” and “dwelling with” also sound unnatural in a letter to an agency. Aim for clear, conventional collocations rather than overly formal wording; for example, “take appropriate action” and “I live with my wife and two children” would sound more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the explanation beginning “Because of…” and the conditional request “I would be glad if you would…”. The main meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions affect accuracy. For example, “the neighbours from same agency play” needs an article and clearer reference, while “it creates hinderance in the sleep cycle” has an unclear subject and faulty sentence construction. The phrase “I regret while writing this” is also not a well-formed opening. Use complete, direct clauses and check articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries. A clearer version would be: “I am writing to complain about the loud video games played by my neighbour late at night.”
