Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Accomodation Agency,
I hope you are doing good, actually i am writing this letter to you because i recently rented a flat from you guys and one of my neighbour is also renting a flat from your agency but now that i have a complain because my neighbour plays very loud video games late night.
Last month i did not had any problem with their late night parties and that very load video game noises, but now these days i have started a new job and my job timings are early morning 6a.m to 3p.m. Because of their loud music, gamings and parties my sleeping routine is disturbing, as you know that i am a student as well i have to study in the evening thats why i can not sleep during the day.
So i want you to please ask them to play their video games in slow noise that could not disturb the people in their neighbourhood.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Adeel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the main situation and make a clear request: you explain that the disturbance has become a problem recently, describe its effect on your sleep and study, and ask the agency to intervene. However, the timing is not fully clear. “Last month I did not have any problem” contrasts with “now these days,” but does not identify when the noise began. The request to ask the neighbour to play at a lower volume is relevant, though it would be more effective to specify a practical action, such as contacting them and reminding them of quiet hours. The opening also says you “recently rented” the flat, which is not necessary and makes the timeline less precise. Develop these details more clearly to address every part of the task fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter follows a broadly sensible order: you introduce the complaint, explain your work and study circumstances, and finish with a request. This gives the reader the main message. However, the first paragraph is a very long sentence containing several ideas, so the complaint and background are difficult to follow. The second paragraph also combines the change in your schedule, the noise, and your study needs without clearly separating their relationships. Linking phrases such as “Since the noise began…” and “As a result…” would make the progression clearer. Use separate paragraphs for the complaint, its effects, and the action requested, and avoid repeating “because” and “but” within long sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the basic complaint, using relevant terms such as “late night,” “sleeping routine,” and “disturb.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or informal for a letter to an agency. “Good” in “doing good,” “complain” for the noun “complaint,” and “slow noise” do not express your meaning naturally; “lower volume” would be clearer. “Gamings” is also not the appropriate form, and “load” appears to be a misspelling of “loud.” Aim for precise collocations such as “excessive noise,” “disrupt my sleep,” and “contact the neighbour.” These improvements would make the message more professional and easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, but the range of structures is limited and errors occur frequently, sometimes making relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “I did not had any problem” uses the wrong verb form after “did”; write “I did not have.” In “one of my neighbour is,” the noun should be plural after “one of my,” and “I have started a new job and my job timings are…” would benefit from clearer sentence boundaries. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “i,” and the final request needs a more complete structure: “I would like you to ask them to lower the volume.” Practise accurate past and present forms, agreement, and punctuation in shorter sentences before combining ideas.
