Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to complain about my neighbour who create noice in late at night playing video games. Recently, I rent apartment with your company Macroproperty at Parkside manor. Since last 2days there is load sound coming from our next door apartment in mid-night.

These voice impacts on our sleeping habits because we usually go for bed at 0900PM and wake up early morning at 0600AM. Moreover, one of my roommates also doing prepration for their exam of Pharmacy licence. So that affect on their study too. We can literally hear the sound of running car and gun shot which occur from computer games as well as talking with someone on live stream.

We would insist you to please give them formal notice to create less voice and if they do not follow that than take some legal action.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and solve this matter as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Marmik Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements and maintains a clear, appropriate complaint throughout. You identify when the issue began (“Since last 2days”), explain its effects on sleep and a roommate’s exam preparation, and request that the agency issue a formal notice and take further action if needed. The examples of game sounds and late-night streaming help make the complaint specific. To strengthen the response further, develop the requested action more precisely—for example, ask the agency to contact the neighbour promptly and confirm what steps it will take. The opening and closing are suitable for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the start.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe its effects, and then state what you want the agency to do. Paragraphing supports this progression, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “So that” show attempts to link related points. The main ideas are easy to follow, although some links are mechanical or unclear; for instance, “So that affect on their study too” does not connect smoothly to the previous sentence. The final sentence also combines your expectation of a reply with a request to solve the matter. Use clearer transitions and separate these ideas to make the letter’s progression more polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary to describe the situation, including “formal notice,” “sleeping habits,” “live stream,” and “legal action.” These choices communicate the complaint, but several inaccurate or misspelled expressions reduce precision and sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “noice” and “load sound” are not the intended forms, while “voice” is not the best word for general game noise. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “create less voice” and “go for bed.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. A more precise range of complaint-related language would help you express the problem and requested remedy more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, such as the sentence beginning “Moreover,” which adds a second effect of the noise. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to affect fluency. Examples include “my neighbour who create,” “Recently, I rent apartment,” and “one of my roommates also doing.” The conditional request, “if they do not follow that than take some legal action,” is also grammatically incomplete. Practise forming complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check tense and agreement. For example, describe the issue as something that “began two days ago” and make the requested action a complete sentence.
