Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to complain about the disturbing behaviour of my neighbours who have been residing next door to me since I have been accommodated here through your agency. As you know that I have settled in this city for my M.B.B.S in one of the renowned institute named as RIMS one month back, studying with full focus at night is mandatory to acquire good a rank.

My parents have wanted me to acquire a personal room so I do not get any sort of distraction to my studies. For this reason, I chose the flat as my temporary residence, but I am getting disturbed from the careless behaviour of my neighbours. As the constant parties with loud video games distract me from my studies till late night. Moreover, I am also a migraine sufferer so such kind of disturbance causes me severe health issues as well.

While this is extremely common among the youngsters to be active on some gaming platforms, I request you at least limit the hours to play for a peaceful society.I am hoping you to take prompt action of this complaint so that such type of behaviour can be further avoided in the society.

Yours sincerely,

Pratibha Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You establish the purpose clearly by saying you are writing “to complain,” and you explain the effect on your studies and migraine. However, the task’s key details are only partly addressed. The start of the problem is not stated clearly: “since I have been accommodated here” describes how long the neighbours have lived there, rather than when the late-night gaming began. You also mention “constant parties,” although the prompt focuses on loud video games. Your requested action—“limit the hours to play”—is relevant, but it would be clearer to ask the agency to contact the neighbour and enforce quiet hours. Develop these points more directly and precisely so the agency can understand the timeline and the action you expect.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure: it opens with the complaint, explains your circumstances and the impact, then makes a request and closes politely. Linking expressions such as “For this reason,” “Moreover,” and “While” help connect ideas. The progression is generally understandable, though some connections are awkward or unclear. For example, “As the constant parties with loud video games distract me” is a sentence fragment, and the shift from your studies to a general comment about young people’s gaming is not fully integrated with the request. Separate the background, effects, and requested action into focused paragraphs, and make each transition express the relationship between ideas clearly. This would make the letter’s progression smoother and less dependent on formulaic connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a reasonably varied range, including “disturbing behaviour,” “constant,” “distraction,” “migraine sufferer,” and “prompt action,” which communicates the seriousness of the complaint. Some less common expressions show ambition, but several are unnatural or imprecise in context: “acquire a good a rank,” “renowned institute named as,” and “such type of behaviour” do not sound idiomatic. “Parties with loud video games” also changes the specific nature of the problem. This fits a response with adequate range and some attempts at less common vocabulary, while word choice and collocation still need refinement. Prefer direct, natural phrases such as “late-night gaming,” “a well-known institute,” and “my studies are being disrupted.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including explanations with “so” and “for this reason,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent understanding. For example, “As you know that I have settled” has an unnecessary “that,” while “As the constant parties … distract me” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence. There are also errors in “I am hoping you to take prompt action” and “one of the renowned institute,” involving verb patterns and agreement. Check that every sentence has a complete main clause, and review verb patterns after “hope” and agreement after “one of.” More accurate control of these structures would strengthen the letter.
