Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to bring your attention to an important issue that I have been suffering from quite a few months and that is extreme noise levels heard from my neighbours.

As you are well aware that I settled in this appartment almost six months back. The adjustment phase was comfortable and convenient all thanks to the previous neighbours. They were well-behaved members of the society.

However, the new family who recetly shifted next to my residence is ruining the tranquility of the building. Most often, their children enjoy video game played at a non-feasible sound level. This has been happening from two-three months back.

Furthermore, due to my grueling working hours and early morning routines, this resulted in negative consequences on my health and sleeping schedules. I had been dealing with issues, such as incomplete sleep and poor mental health because of constant exposure to these harsh sounds.

This is a humble request to accomodation Supervisor to address this critical problem at the earliest. Such kind of problematic people should be restricted to maintain the noise levels at a healthier level.

Yours faithfully,

Kainat

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that the issue began “two-three months back,” describe its effects on your sleep and mental health, and ask the agency to intervene. The impact is relevant and clear, particularly the reference to early routines and incomplete sleep. However, some details are less fully developed: the start date could be stated more precisely, and the request is vague. “Restricted to maintain the noise levels” does not specify a practical action, such as contacting the neighbour, setting quiet hours, or following up on a complaint. A clearer, more courteous request would make the purpose of the letter more effective and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the complaint, gives background and timing, explains the consequences, and ends with a request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “However” and “Furthermore” guide the reader. Some connections are awkward or mechanical, though. For example, “As you are well aware that” does not connect grammatically to the following clause, and the shift from “previous neighbours” to “the new family” could be made more direct. The final paragraph also moves quickly from the problem to a general judgement about the neighbours. Use clearer transitions and keep the focus on the agency’s next steps.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “tranquility,” “constant exposure,” and “negative consequences.” These choices communicate the seriousness of the issue, and the meaning remains clear. Some less common expressions are inaccurate or unnatural in context: “non-feasible sound level,” “grueling working hours,” and “problematic people” do not sound like natural wording for this letter. There are also spelling errors, including “appartment,” “recetly,” and “accomodation.” Aim for precise, conventional collocations rather than overly elaborate phrases; this will make the complaint sound more fluent and professional while preserving your intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, such as the sentence explaining how work hours and early routines affect your health. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. “As you are well aware that I settled” combines two incompatible patterns; write either “As you are well aware, I settled…” or “You are well aware that I settled…”. In “their children enjoy video game played,” the noun and verb forms need correction, and “This has been happening from two-three months back” uses an incorrect tense and time expression. Review clause structure, articles and verb forms, and proofread punctuation so that complex sentences remain controlled.
