Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to complain about my neighbour who has been residing in an apartment from last three months. He was shifted into this residence by your agency' help 3 months ago.He has anti-social behaviour of producing loud noise which is highly disturbing for me.
Let me explain it to you in detail regarding this problem. Previously I was satisfied with my current living condition as my neighbours were very considerate. However, lately my neighbour has been in habit of incessantly playing play station at very loud volume along with his friends who visit his accommodation daily at night ever since he shifted here.
This annoying behaviour of him is not only causing me restless sleep during the whole night but also destroying my work routine. I am unable to complete my assignments. I am all tired and foggy at my workplace too.
I would like you to tranfer me or him to another accomodation so that I can have peaceful sleep and normal work life.
I would be grateful to you for this consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Saman Zafar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you say the noise began when the neighbour moved in three months ago, explain its effects on your sleep and work, and request that either you or the neighbour be moved. The complaint is clear and relevant, and the impact is supported with specific details such as being unable to complete assignments and feeling tired at work. Some parts are less fully developed: the timing is slightly unclear because you also say the problem has occurred “lately,” and the requested action could be more practical and specific, for example asking the agency to contact the neighbour first or investigate the noise. This covers the task well, while fuller clarification and development would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the complaint, give background, describe its effects, and finish with a request. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and phrases such as “However” and “This annoying behaviour” connect ideas. Some linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly “Let me explain it to you in detail regarding this problem,” which adds little and interrupts the flow. The reference to “lately” after saying the neighbour moved in three months ago also makes the timeline less smooth. A more direct transition into the noise details and clearer links between the start date and the ongoing disturbance would make the organisation feel more natural and consistently controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range to explain the complaint and its consequences, including “incessantly,” “restless sleep,” and “work routine.” These choices communicate the seriousness of the problem, and the reader can understand your request. However, some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for this context: “anti-social behaviour of producing loud noise,” “playing play station,” and “destroying my work routine.” There are also spelling errors in “tranfer” and “accomodation.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise formal wording, such as “repeatedly playing video games at a high volume” and “disrupting my work routine.” This would make your vocabulary more fluent and appropriate to a formal agency letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast introduced by “However” and the sentence explaining that the noise affects both sleep and work. The main message remains clear despite some grammatical errors. For example, “from last three months” needs a different time expression, and “He was shifted into this residence by your agency' help 3 months ago” has problems with passive construction and punctuation. In “my neighbour has been in habit,” an article is missing, while “ever since he shifted here” would be clearer with a more suitable verb form. Check articles, prepositions, and sentence punctuation carefully; improving these patterns would make the letter more consistently accurate.
