Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to complain about the distrubances noises coming from our neighbours apartment. I live in Sunridge flats my house number is 208.

This problem has been started for last two weeks. On last Monday around past 10 we heard a very loud noise coming from our neighbour house we all scared first then we realised that somebody was playing games and making lots of noises.

I lived with my family due to this distrubance we are not able to live comfortabely in our own home. My partents have to sleep on time and these noise distrub our routine.

As i have to wake up early in the morning for my job i am not able to get enough sleep consquentely this will causing problems in my working life as well.

I would apperciate it if could talk to residents about my issue and ask them put there voulme down specialy after 10 pm. I would like if you remainded ground rules for everyone who lives in building.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Your faithful,

Anita Gujjar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you say the noise began about two weeks ago, explain that it disrupts your family’s sleep and your work, and ask the agency to speak to the residents and remind everyone of the rules. The complaint is clear and relevant throughout. The impact is explained with useful personal details, especially your early start at work, though the account of when the noise began is slightly unclear: “for last two weeks” is followed by “On last Monday,” without clarifying whether Monday was the first incident. Your requested action is also somewhat general; specifying a follow-up or a reminder about quiet hours would make it more fully developed. The letter already covers the task well, but these details could be clearer and more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a sensible order: you introduce the complaint, describe when it started, explain its effects, and then state what you want the agency to do. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and the closing is appropriate. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. For example, “This problem has been started for last two weeks” and “On last Monday” leave the timeline difficult to follow, while “As i have to wake up early…” connects the effect on sleep to work in a logical way. A few sentences run several ideas together, particularly the paragraph about your family and routine. Clearer transitions and more precise references to the neighbour and the noise would make the progression more consistently easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “loud noise,” “routine,” “enough sleep,” and “ground rules.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors make the letter less natural. Examples include “distrubances noises,” “comfortabley,” “consquentely,” and “remainded.” Some phrases are also imprecise: “playing games and making lots of noises” could be expressed more specifically as loud video gaming, and “put there voulme down” is not a natural collocation. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but more accurate spelling and conventional phrases for a formal complaint would improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, such as “As i have to wake up early in the morning for my job…” and “I would appreciate it if…,” so there is some variety beyond basic statements. However, errors in verb forms, sentence construction, agreement, and punctuation are frequent enough to affect fluency. For example, “This problem has been started” uses an incorrect passive form, and “these noise distrub our routine” has a number-agreement problem. The request “I would apperciate it if could talk…” is missing a clear subject after “if,” while “I would like if you…” is also structurally incomplete. Practise accurate past and present forms and check that each clause has a subject and verb; this will make your meaning easier to process.
