You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a tenant staying at your accommodation located at plot 40, Adisa Bello Street, Mabushi, and I am writing to raise a complaint regarding my neighbour who lives directly opposite my apartment, that is flat 4. For the past 1 week he has been playing loud video games and I have tried to speak to him about it, but there has been no improvement as it has gotten worse.
This noise pollution is so loud that it interrupts my online class and prevents me from getting good sleep. I usually sleep for about seven hours, but now I barely get 4 hours of sleep and I fear it would affect my health.
I would recommend that you reach out to him and if he still insists on continuing with the habit, he should be asked to quit the building or the matter should be taken to the authorities.
I look forward to this problem being resolved as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Ruth PA

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose. You identify when the issue began (“For the past 1 week”), explain its effects on your online class and sleep, and request that the agency contact the neighbour, with further action if the behaviour continues. The specific change from seven hours’ sleep to four helps support the impact, and mentioning that you have already spoken to the neighbour adds useful context. To develop the request more fully, specify a practical first step, such as asking the neighbour to keep gaming volume down after a stated hour, and frame escalation as a measured next step. Overall, the relevant ideas are clear and supported, though the proposed remedy could be more carefully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe its effects, request action, and close politely. Paragraphing separates these functions effectively, and links such as “but” and “if” make the relationship between events and requests easy to follow. The progression from the neighbour’s behaviour to its consequences is logical. Some phrasing is slightly repetitive or cumbersome, particularly the opening description of your tenancy and the neighbour’s location, which delays the central complaint. You could make the opening more direct and use a clearer transition into the requested action. Cohesion is generally flexible and effective, while a little tightening would make the letter feel more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “raise a complaint,” “noise pollution,” “interrupts,” and “resolved.” These choices communicate the problem and its consequences clearly, and the tone is mostly suitable for writing to an agency. However, some expressions are imprecise or less natural in this context: “tenant staying at your accommodation” and “quit the building” do not sound idiomatic, while “for the past 1 week” is awkwardly phrased. There is some attempt at more formal language, but collocation and precision are not consistently controlled. Choose conventional complaint-letter wording and describe the requested action more specifically to make your vocabulary more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The response includes a useful mix of simple and complex sentences, and several are controlled well, such as “This noise pollution is so loud that it interrupts my online class and prevents me from getting good sleep.” The conditional structure in “if he still insists on continuing…” also shows some range. Most sentences are easy to understand, and punctuation generally supports the meaning. A few grammatical choices need attention: “For the past 1 week” would be more naturally expressed with a plural time phrase, and the long opening sentence becomes awkward around “my neighbour …, that is flat 4.” The sentence about sleep and health also shifts from present effects to “it would affect,” where a more consistent tense would be clearer. Review time expressions, sentence boundaries, and tense consistency.
