Student answer (Band 6.5)

Respected Agency manager,

I am writing to bring to your attention to an ongoing issue, concerining excessive noise caused by the residents of the apartment next to mine. The persistent disturbance has become increasingly frustrating as it occurs late at nights and distrubs me to get a good sound sleep.

I have been living in my current apartment from the past many years and until now i was not having any issue with environment . However the problem began at mid night approximately one month ago. When my neighbours started playing video games at an extremly high volume, till the morning. They also rented their flat through your agency. Initially, it looks like an occasional but its becoming persistent.

As I have to get up early for my work every morning . I cant concentrate on my duty due to lack of sleep. Furthermore this disturbance caused stress and affected my overall well being.

I would therefore appreciate if you look in to this matter and resolve it.I hope you will take necessary actions to resolve it .

Your assistance in this regard would be greatly appreciated .

Your's sincerely

Ahmad Shah

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate complaint throughout. You identify when the issue began (“approximately one month ago”), explain its effects on your sleep, work concentration and well-being, and ask the agency to investigate and take action. These details make the problem understandable and relevant. The request for action, however, remains general: “resolve it” and “take necessary actions” do not specify what you expect, such as contacting the neighbour or enforcing quiet hours. The account of the start is also slightly unclear because you say the noise continues “till the morning” without clarifying whether this happens every night. Making the requested remedy more precise and developing that detail would strengthen an already complete response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe its onset and effects, then make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Furthermore” and “therefore” guide the reader. This gives the letter a coherent overall structure. Some connections are less smooth, though: “Initially, it looks like an occasional but its becoming persistent” is difficult to follow, and the repeated request to “resolve” the matter in consecutive sentences is redundant. A few sentence breaks also interrupt the flow, particularly “When my neighbours started…” after the preceding sentence. Clarifying these links and combining closely related ideas would make progression more consistently natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “persistent disturbance,” “excessive noise,” “concentrate” and “overall well being.” These choices communicate the issue and its impact clearly, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several spelling and word-choice or collocation errors reduce precision: “concerining,” “distrubs,” “extremly,” and “sound sleep” are inaccurate or unnatural. Phrases such as “environment” and “necessary actions” are also vague in this context. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “disrupts my sleep,” “at an extremely high volume,” and “take appropriate action.” Proofreading spelling and choosing more precise complaint-related vocabulary would improve control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional-style request (“I would therefore appreciate if…”) and a sentence explaining the effect of the noise. The main message remains understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “I have been living… from the past many years” uses an incorrect time construction, while “until now i was not having any issue” has problems with tense and sentence form. The fragment “When my neighbours started…” should be joined to the sentence before it, and punctuation is inconsistent, including missing spaces after full stops. There are also errors in articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries. Review these patterns and proofread each sentence for a complete grammatical structure.
