Dear Sir or Madam,
Purpose of letter: To file a complaint about my neighbour
I recently moved into a new flat last night, and I am facing a lot of problems while sleeping.
Last night, my neighbour played games loudly. It affects my family and me. I will discuss the whole issue from last night and going forward in the paragraphs
Firstly, I did not get proper sleep; it affects me a lot in my daily routine. For example, it is very hard to wake up, and I am working 12 hours a day; it's too hard to do the shift. I made a lot of mistakes during my whole shift due to lack of sleep.
Moreover, my children also missed school today; they got ill due to lack of sleep. i am requesting something about my problems.
I look forward to hearing from you soon
You sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the central issue—your neighbour played video games loudly at night—and explain that the noise disrupted your sleep and affected your work. However, the task is only partly addressed: the start of the problem is given as “last night,” but it is unclear whether this was the first occurrence or when an ongoing problem began. The effects on your family are mentioned, though the claim that your children “got ill due to lack of sleep” is not explained. Most importantly, “I am requesting something about my problems” does not say what action you want the agency to take. State a clear request, such as contacting the neighbour or enforcing quiet hours, and develop the impact more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The letter has a basic sequence: it introduces the complaint, describes effects on you, then mentions your children. Paragraph breaks and markers such as “Firstly” and “Moreover” help the reader follow the points. However, progression is weakened by the heading-like line “Purpose of letter,” the sentence promising to discuss the issue “in the paragraphs,” and the vague transition “I am requesting something about my problems.” These do not connect the ideas naturally or advance the complaint. The final request is not separated or made specific, and the sign-off is awkwardly arranged. Use a clear opening, one paragraph for the effects, and a final paragraph stating the action you expect.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the main situation, including “played games loudly,” “proper sleep,” “daily routine,” and “lack of sleep.” Some phrases show an attempt to describe consequences, such as “I made a lot of mistakes during my whole shift.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are vague or repetitive, particularly “a lot of problems,” “affects me a lot,” and “something about my problems.” “Played games loudly” is understandable but less precise than language describing the noise from gaming. Choose more specific complaint vocabulary and avoid repeating general words: for example, describe “excessive noise,” “sleep disruption,” and the action you want the agency to take.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You communicate mainly through simple sentences, with some attempts to link clauses, as in “For example, it is very hard to wake up, and I am working 12 hours a day.” The basic meaning is generally understandable, but control is uneven. In “I recently moved into a new flat last night,” the time expression is awkwardly placed and conflicts with “recently”; “It affects my family and me” also shifts tense from the past event to the present without a clear reason. The sentence beginning “I will discuss the whole issue” is cumbersome, and “You sincerely” is not a correct closing form. Practise consistent past and present tenses, clearer sentence construction, and conventional letter punctuation and sign-offs.
