Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I would like to write this letter to compalin you about the loud noise coming from my negibhour's flat and he rented the apartment through your agency.
Bascially, the nosie was coming from the very first day as I shifted here. But as the time pasess, the nosie gets more loudier and worst. In the daytime its bit quite but during the evening they started palying video games will full volume, which distract me to do my chores.
To be honest, the nosie affected me very badly. As I am a morning person and work full time, I cannot able to sleep properly. In addition to this, I woke up restless and exhauted which effects my work and concentration.
I really need your help to reslove this issue. Even I talk to them but they did not follow and start arguing with me. I want that you should talk to them and fix some hours to play games or if they will not follow this rule you have to take a strick action towards this so that it will not only help me but also to other society members feel relaxed and have agood sleep.
I look forward to a positive and prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Parneet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you say the noise began when you moved in, explain that it disrupts chores and sleep and affects your work, and request that the agency speak to the neighbour and set gaming hours. The complaint remains clear throughout, and mentioning that you have already tried speaking to the neighbour gives useful context. Your requested action is also supported by the concern that other residents may be affected. To strengthen the letter further, make the timeline more precise—for example, state how long ago you moved in—and specify what action you expect if the neighbour ignores the agreed hours. These additions would make the relevant ideas more fully developed and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the complaint, describe when and how the noise occurs, explain its effects, and then make a request. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “In addition to this” and “I look forward to” support the structure. The sequence is generally logical, but some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly the long request beginning “I want that you should talk to them” and continuing through several possible actions. Break this into shorter sentences and make the relationship between the requested hours and the consequence of non-compliance explicit. This would make the cohesion more flexible and less dependent on linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “full volume,” “concentration,” “restless,” and “take a strict action.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, such as “compalin,” “negibhour,” “nosie,” and “exhauted.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “gets more loudier and worst” and “fix some hours to play games” make the message less fluent. Aim to learn accurate collocations for formal complaints and check spelling carefully. More precise phrases such as “the noise has become increasingly loud” and “set permitted gaming hours” would help you express the problem and your request more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including explanations of cause and effect, such as “As I am a morning person and work full time, I cannot able to sleep properly.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For example, “he rented the apartment through your agency” does not fit smoothly into the opening sentence, while “they started playing” shifts tense and “I woke up restless” does not clearly match the ongoing problem. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea each, then check verb forms and punctuation before combining them.
