Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir,

Hoping you are doing well.

I just recently rent a flat from your agency, and I am living in the C302 at Sardar flat. All the facilities and accomodation is well-set. But, I just want to let you know that my new neighbour who lives in C303. Who makes very loud noise at night. The problem began around 2 weeks before.

Actually, I told them the situation multiple times as I have to go my morning shift and I can not take good sleep because you guys are playing video games at night and it creates lots of noises. Because my living room is near to your main hall. So, I totally hear all the video games voices. And it is affecting to my sleep cycle.

I just want to tell you that if you can visit the place and warning them about the situation, so it will be greatful for me.

I hope you will visit soon and solve this situation as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three required points: you say the noise began “around 2 weeks” ago, explain that it disrupts sleep before your morning shift, and ask the agency to visit and warn the neighbour. The complaint is relevant and the requested action is clear. However, some details are less fully developed: the effect on your daily life is mainly described as a disrupted “sleep cycle,” and the request could specify a practical outcome, such as asking the neighbour to keep the volume down after a particular hour. The opening also gives unnecessary positive comments about the accommodation before reaching the complaint. Develop the impact and make the requested action more precise to strengthen the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from the situation to its effects and then to a request, so the reader can follow the main message. Paragraphing broadly separates these stages. However, progression is weakened by abrupt or incomplete links, such as “My new neighbour… Who makes very loud noise,” and by the shift from describing the neighbour to addressing them directly as “you guys.” The opening pleasantry and comments about the facilities also delay the central purpose. Use complete sentences, keep the neighbour consistently in the third person, and connect the explanation of the noise to its effect with clearer transitions. A more focused opening and a concise closing request would make the organisation smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “neighbour,” “morning shift,” “video games,” and “sleep cycle.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “accomodation,” “lots of noises,” “video games voices,” and “greatful.” These errors make the letter sound less precise and less appropriate for a formal agency. Choose more natural collocations, for example “excessive noise from video games” and “the noise is affecting my sleep.” Also use a consistent formal register rather than “you guys.” Greater accuracy and variety in describing the disturbance and its impact would improve this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can understand the central complaint. However, control is uneven, particularly in verb forms, sentence boundaries, and clause construction. For example, “I just recently rent” uses an incorrect tense, while “My new neighbour… Who makes very loud noise” is an incomplete sentence. The sentence beginning “Actually, I told them…” becomes difficult to follow when it shifts into “you guys are playing” and then adds “Because my living room is near…” as a fragment. Practise forming complete sentences and maintaining consistent tense and person. A few carefully controlled complex sentences would help you explain the timeline, cause, and effect more clearly.
