Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Mr. Nick,
I am writing to express a problem that affects me daily. I am staying at your flat from past 2 months, I would like to inform to your agency. I have issue with next door, neighbour next door plays very loud video games late at night thus, i can't sleep at nights early its getting late to woke up at mornings and I'm getting delay for work it being difficult to manage my duration.
I would like to suggest to inform him to stop creating a issue to the neighbours, moreover, he can decrease the volume or he can play video games at basement. It might help for all the neighbours. It's a kindly request to your agency should take a step on the issue all the neighbours affecting by him.
I look forward to hearing from you a good decision. So, please it would be better to make it fast for our resilience.
Thank You,
Yours faithfully,
Samrin Begum.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the central problem—your neighbour plays loud video games late at night—and explain a practical effect: you cannot sleep properly and are delayed getting to work. You also request action, suggesting the neighbour lower the volume or play elsewhere. However, the task asks when the problem began, and “I am staying at your flat from past 2 months” gives the length of your tenancy, not when the noise started. The requested action is also somewhat unclear: asking the agency to inform the neighbour is relevant, but the final request for “a good decision” does not specify a clear outcome. Develop these points more directly and maintain a suitable formal opening, as the prompt specifies “Dear Sir or Madam,” to address all parts more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable structure: you introduce the complaint, describe its effects, suggest possible solutions, and close by requesting a response. This helps the reader follow the general purpose. However, progression within sentences is often difficult to track, particularly in the opening paragraph, where several ideas are joined together without clear boundaries. Connectors such as “thus,” “moreover,” and “so” are used, but some links feel mechanical or do not clarify the relationship between ideas. The second paragraph also combines a request, suggestions, and a general statement about other neighbours. Use shorter sentences and separate the problem, its impact, and your requested action into clear paragraphs, with each sentence advancing one point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the complaint, including “loud video games,” “late at night,” “volume,” and “neighbours,” so the reader can understand the main issue. There are also attempts to express the impact and urgency. However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “express a problem,” “manage my duration,” and “for our resilience.” These choices make parts of the letter difficult to interpret. Some wording is also repetitive, especially the repeated references to the neighbour and the issue. Choose more precise complaint-letter expressions, such as “raise a concern,” “affect my sleep,” and “resolve the matter,” and check that each phrase conveys the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and connectors, for example in “I can't sleep at nights early its getting late to woke up at mornings.” This shows an effort to express cause and consequence, but sentence boundaries and verb forms are often inaccurate, making the message harder to read. The opening also joins two independent ideas with a comma: “I am staying at your flat from past 2 months, I would like to inform to your agency.” Other problems include “plays” without a clear subject in the sentence and “agency should take a step,” where the sentence structure is incomplete. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then add accurate complex clauses. Check tense, articles, and punctuation before sending the letter.
