Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I want to complain you about my neighbour Jagjit singh. From last few days they plays very loud video games at late night. This problem start when some of their relatives comes to live with them.

My work started early morning, so i need to go to bed early. Due to noise pollution its hard to get sleep, that is why i do not wake up early morning and i am always go to my office late. It put bad impact on my profession. This is not only effect my work but also put bad impact on my health. I feel sleepless all day and my body is not working well then.

It would be more helpful if you send them warning letter and explain all rules about noise pollution. If you warn them may be they understand and do not play loud voice at night time.

I am looking forward heard from you.

Yours Sincerly,

Pardeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you say the problem began when relatives moved in, explain that the noise disrupts your sleep and affects your work and health, and ask the agency to send a warning and explain the rules. The complaint is clear and relevant, and the request gives the agency a practical action to take. Some details are less fully developed, however: “from last few days” does not establish a precise start time, and the effect on your health is stated generally rather than illustrated. To strengthen the letter further, give a clearer timeframe and explain briefly how often the gaming continues or what specific impact it has on your wellbeing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the complaint, describes its consequences, makes a request, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and links such as “Due to” and “not only…but also” show how the ideas relate. Some connections are less smooth or precise, particularly “that is why i do not wake up early morning and i am always go to my office late,” where the cause-and-effect relationship is difficult to follow. The final request also repeats the idea of warning the neighbour. For stronger progression, use clearer sentence links and avoid repeating the same proposed action in slightly different wording.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main complaint, including “loud video games,” “noise pollution,” “warning letter,” and “bad impact on my profession.” However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: “complain you about” is not the natural expression, and “put bad impact” is repeated rather than using a more suitable collocation. “Loud voice” is also unclear when describing game noise. Aim to learn common phrases for formal complaints, such as “raise a complaint about,” “have a negative effect on,” and “play games at a high volume.” These would make the letter sound more natural and appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including the contrast in “This is not only effect my work but also put bad impact on my health.” However, errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction occur throughout and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “they plays,” “This problem start,” “relatives comes,” and “I am always go.” The sentence about waking and arriving late also combines clauses awkwardly. Practise matching subjects and verbs, using past tense for when the problem began, and forming present-tense routines consistently. More accurate control of these basic patterns, alongside your attempts at longer sentences, would make the message easier to read.
