Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my concern regarding a frequent problem that has lately become a source of stress for me.
The main reason for my writing is that my neighbour from the very next appartement plays video games and streams very loudly late at night every single night. This issue started two weeks ago, I tried talking it out with him but he wouldn't understand.
Moreover, I work early in the morning and I try to maintain a very strict sleeping schedule, therefore any source of nuisance affects my day heavily. Besides, this issues has been going for over two weeks now and I started having trouble waking up early which led to my late arrival to work on multiple occasions. Hence, my company's HR notified me several times that any more inconveniences may lead to sanctions.
Thus, I would appreciate it if you could look into this matter and follow the proper legal ways to stop this matter from going any further than this.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three required points: you say the noise began “two weeks ago,” explain that disrupted sleep has caused difficulty waking and late arrivals at work, and ask the agency to intervene. These details make the impact clear and support your request. The letter also maintains a suitably formal purpose. To make the response more fully developed, specify what action you expect—for example, contacting the neighbour, reminding them of quiet-hour rules, or arranging a follow-up. “Follow the proper legal ways” leaves the requested action rather general. The opening “Dear Sir” also does not follow the supplied greeting; use “Dear Sir or Madam,” as instructed. Overall, the task is clearly addressed, with room to make the proposed remedy more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the concern, explains the neighbour’s behaviour and when it began, describes the consequences, and ends with a request and closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, while connectors such as “Moreover,” “Besides,” and “Hence” guide the reader through the explanation. The sequence is easy to follow, and the connection between poor sleep and work difficulties is explicit. Some linking is slightly repetitive or mechanical: “Moreover” and “Besides” both introduce related effects, and “This issue” is followed by “this issues” to refer back to the same problem. You could improve flow by combining the overlapping statements about the two-week duration and varying the transitions. The organisation is otherwise clear and purposeful.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a reasonably varied range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “express my concern,” “source of stress,” “strict sleeping schedule,” and “sanctions.” These choices communicate the seriousness of the situation and show some awareness of formal register. A few expressions are imprecise or unnatural, however: “very next appartement” is not idiomatic, “talking it out” is conversational for this letter, and “follow the proper legal ways” does not clearly name the action you want. “Inconveniences” is also not the most natural way to describe possible consequences at work. More precise collocations would make the request sound both clearer and more professional. Your meaning remains understandable, but control of less common phrasing is not consistently natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason-and-result structure in “I work early in the morning … therefore any source of nuisance affects my day heavily” and a relative clause in “which led to my late arrival to work.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the letter includes some accurate sentence patterns. There are still some errors in agreement and sentence construction. For example, “this issues has been going” should be “this issue has been going,” and “This issue started two weeks ago, I tried talking it out with him” joins two independent clauses with only a comma. The long sentence beginning “Moreover” would also benefit from clearer punctuation or division. Greater accuracy in these patterns would strengthen control.
