Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my frustration caused by loud noise coming from the next door tenants. I am residing at block#314.
The issue was started last month when I first heard the sound of video games at midnight. I thought it would be for a few days only, and I waited for 2 weeks. Until now, the current situation is the same as before.
Because I work during a day, I prefer to studyat night, at least for a few hours. The loud music does not allow me to concentrate on my studies efficiently, and even I am unable to sleep properly. Eventually, my health will be affected.
I would appreciate it if you could communicate with my neighbour at your earliest convenience to reach to the conclusion point for this matter. Their block is just next to mine, block#315. I am really hoping for the best.
I look forward to your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Rutvi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriately formal purpose. You identify when the problem began (“last month”) and explain that the gaming noise was first heard at midnight; you also describe its effects on studying, sleep, and potential health. Your request for the agency to contact the neighbour is clear, and the flat numbers help identify the parties. These details make the response relevant and sufficiently supported. To strengthen the development further, specify how often the noise occurs and what practical action you expect—for example, asking the agency to remind the tenant of quiet hours or follow up if the disturbance continues. The health consequence is understandable but remains general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: you introduce the complaint, explain its duration, describe its impact, and then make a request. Paragraphing supports this progression, while phrases such as “Because I work during a day” and “I would appreciate it if” help connect the explanation to your request. The opening and closing also suit a formal letter. A few links are less smooth: “I waited for 2 weeks. Until now” creates a slightly abrupt transition, and “to reach to the conclusion point” makes the requested outcome difficult to follow. You could improve flow by joining the timeline more naturally and stating the agency’s requested action directly. Overall, the reader can follow the message without difficulty.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for making a formal complaint, with useful phrases such as “express my frustration,” “concentrate,” and “prompt response.” The wording communicates the main problem and its effects, but some choices are imprecise or unnatural, which limits flexibility and precision. For example, “the issue was started” is not a natural way to describe when a problem began, and “reach to the conclusion point” does not clearly express the outcome you want. “Loud music” is also less precise than “loud gaming noise” in this context. Aim for accurate collocations and specific language when describing the disturbance and the agency’s next steps; this will make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “Because I work during a day…” and the polite conditional “I would appreciate it if you could…”. Most of the message remains easy to understand, and the timeline and consequences are expressed clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, however. “The issue was started last month” uses an awkward passive construction; “The issue started last month” is more appropriate. In “I thought it would be for a few days only, and I waited for 2 weeks,” the reference of “it” is unclear, and “Until now, the current situation is the same as before” is not well formed. There is also a missing space in “studyat.” Review verb patterns and sentence connections to improve accuracy while retaining your range.
