Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing this letter to formally request about displeasing voices from neighbours.
My name is Karamveer. I am living at Green Street since last month. First few day were nice to live there but later i started facing some problems becauses of my neighbours as they are playing quite loud vedio games and hosting their friends late at night.
These noise are affecting my daily routine in many ways. First of all, i could not sleep properly when they are screeming and having noisy electronic games. At the same time mid- term exams are staring from next week due to this i have to study late at night but i can not concentrate on my studies properly. My lectures are being affected with unpleast noise.
I firmly request you to kindly look into this matter. One of my friends is living nearby as he rented a flat from this agency about few months ago. He is incredibly organised, displined and nice live with either you can shift in his apartment or you should give them final warning not to do so. I would really appriciate your decision.
Looking forward to here from you.
Your's faithfully
Karam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you say the disturbance began after your first few days in the flat, explain that it disrupts sleep and exam preparation, and ask the agency to intervene. These details make the complaint relevant and give the reader a clear sense of its impact. However, the start of the problem is only described generally, and the request for action is less clear because you offer two different options—moving your friend into the neighbour’s flat or issuing a warning—without explaining which outcome you prefer or why. Develop the timeline and make one practical, specific request, such as asking the agency to contact the neighbour and enforce quiet hours. The purpose is clear, but some ideas need fuller development and clarification.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure: you introduce the complaint, describe its effects, and then request action. The sequence is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “First of all” and “At the same time” help signal the effects. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly the long final request beginning “One of my friends is living nearby,” where the relationship between your friend and the proposed action is difficult to follow. The effects paragraph also combines several points in one extended sentence. Use clearer paragraphing and separate each request or explanation into a complete sentence. More precise referencing and less mechanical linking would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to a formal complaint, including “formally request,” “affecting my daily routine,” and “look into this matter.” These phrases help communicate the situation and its seriousness. However, a number of spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy and sometimes make the meaning less natural, such as “displeasing voices,” “screeming,” “unpleast noise,” and “organised” to describe a potential flatmate. Some expressions are also awkwardly combined, including “request about” and “nice live with.” Aim for precise collocations and check spelling carefully. A broader set of accurate terms for noise, sleep disruption, and agency action would make the complaint more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “First few day were nice to live there but later i started facing some problems” and the sentence explaining the effect on your studies. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but there are several errors in sentence construction, agreement, tense, and punctuation. For instance, “These noise are affecting” has a number-agreement problem, while “due to this i have to study late at night but i can not concentrate” needs clearer clause boundaries and punctuation. The final sentence about your friend and the agency’s options is also difficult to parse because several ideas are joined without a clear grammatical structure. Practise accurate sentence boundaries and review agreement and tense while retaining your attempts at complex forms.
