Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir
I have rented flat no 202 from your agency few months ago.I really appreciated your sevices which i received through this time and I was comfortable with my space and environment however today i am writing to you to raise my complaint about the current issue which i am facing from my neighbours who are renting the flat no 203 and are client of your agency as well.Firstly the main issue is the loud voice at night. There are video game playing in full volume whole night and all the nearby flats residents are uncomfortable with the loud and unbearable noises It is almost one month now since the issue has began ..and i am particularly being affected by this beacuse i work at night from home. However the loud bangd make is difficult for me to complete my official rask. Before writing to you i personally made a request to my neighbors about my concern but the issue remained the same.therefor i request to you to please resolve the issue by sending any showcause notice forst and if the problem is un solved then you can charge penelty so that they can take the issue seriously..I hope you will take up this matter immediately..I will look out for your response..
Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the neighbour in flat 203, explain that the noise has continued for about a month, describe its effect on your work, and request action from the agency. The detail that you work from home at night makes the impact relevant, and mentioning that you already spoke to the neighbours helps explain why you are contacting the agency. Some parts are less fully developed: “all the nearby flats residents” is a broad claim, while the specific effect on your sleep or ability to work could be explained more clearly. Your request for a notice followed by a penalty is clear, though a more precise, measured request for the agency to investigate and enforce its noise rules would strengthen the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter follows a generally understandable order: you introduce the complaint, describe the noise and its effect, then explain your previous attempt to resolve it and ask the agency to act. Connectors such as “Firstly,” “However,” and “therefor” signal relationships between ideas, but they are sometimes mechanical or inaccurately used. Most of the response is presented as one long paragraph, so the complaint, its impact, and your requested action are not visually separated. Several ideas also run together, particularly around the month-long duration and your work difficulties. Use two or three focused paragraphs and clearer sentence boundaries; this would make the progression easier to follow and reduce the need for repeated linking words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “loud,” “unbearable noises,” “resolve the issue,” and “showcause notice.” There are also attempts at more formal language, such as “raise my complaint” and “take up this matter.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “sevices,” “beacuse,” “bangd,” and “penelty” are examples. Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “There are video game playing in full volume” and “loud bangd make.” Choose accurate collocations such as “the neighbours play video games at full volume” and “the noise makes it difficult to work.” Proofreading spelling would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “however” and a time clause in “It is almost one month now since the issue has began.” The main message remains understandable, but errors occur across sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, and punctuation. For example, “There are video game playing” needs a clearer subject and verb, while “since the issue has began” should use the appropriate past participle. The opening also joins several clauses without full stops, and the letter contains inconsistent capitalisation. Aim for shorter, complete sentences and check subject–verb agreement and verb forms; then use longer structures selectively, with punctuation that clearly separates each idea.
