Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
i am writing to explain a crticial issue i am facing from last week in my building where i am living. I have rented a flat from your agency last year and i am quite satisided with all the amenities and timely maintenance provided.
However, last week a group of bachelors rented a flat in my neighbour from your agency. They used to play video games late night with very loud volume that is really disturbing as it impact my sleeping routine and i need to wakeup early in the morning. I politely requested them twice but they ignored my words and kept the same routine.
Furthermore, now it become more disasterous as many of their groups from other places joined them and cheering noises so loud that i couldnot sleep even a single minute yesterday. luckily today is my off esle i couldnot work anything in my office.
I am requsting you to take my concern seriously and take a proper action on the said issue as it's disturbing my life and i believe disturbing the other neighbours as well.
Yours faithfully,
Junaid Sabir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you say the problem began “last week,” explain that the noise disrupts your sleep and affects your ability to work, and ask the agency to take action. The complaint is relevant and your polite request makes your purpose clear. Some details are less fully developed, however. For example, “take a proper action” does not specify what you want the agency to do, such as contact the tenants or enforce quiet hours. The effect on your work is also expressed indirectly through the day off. State the practical consequences more clearly and make a specific request so the agency knows how to respond.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a description of the noise and its effects, and a closing request. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the main stages, and linking expressions such as “However” and “Furthermore” show how the complaint develops. Some connections are less smooth or precise. The shift from the neighbours’ gaming to “many of their groups from other places” is difficult to follow, and “luckily today is my off” does not connect clearly to the preceding point about being unable to work. Use clearer references and transitions, and keep each paragraph focused on one aspect of the complaint to make the progression more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “disturbing,” “sleeping routine,” “maintenance,” and “take my concern seriously.” There are also attempts at more expressive wording, such as “cheering noises,” although some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and occasionally make the meaning less clear. For instance, “more disasterous” is not a natural way to describe worsening noise, and “a group of bachelors” is an unnecessarily specific description. Spelling errors such as “crticial,” “satisided,” and “requsting” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional phrases suited to a formal complaint, and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the sentence explaining that the noise affects your sleep and early-morning routine. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “it impact my sleeping routine” needs subject–verb agreement, while “now it become more” needs a suitable tense. The opening “i am writing” also requires a capital letter, and “a flat in my neighbour” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. Review present and past tense choices and check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb; this will make your varied sentence structures more controlled.
