Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing to bring your attention to one of the problems I am facing for the past two days. I share the same apartment with my neighbour who is habitaul of playing videos games daily though this is not my concern. However, I am actually distubed by the loud music the games has. The problem began when I got to know that he is having holidays from his college and he has been spending his whole time playing loud videos games. Honestly, this does not affect me in the mornings as I am a working professional and I come home in the evenings specifically at 8 pm. But whenever I come inside my room, I get alot of noise which actually is unbearable for me and distubs my much needed mind peace. Therefore, I would really appreciate if you could come forward and take some action to resolve the matter. You can have a word with him and tell him to reduce the volume while playing games or he can use his headphones which will give me relief from unnecesary sounds.

Kidnly resolve the matter as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your kind support and co-operation.

Yours faithfully,

Alex

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you say the issue began two days ago, explain that the noise is especially troublesome when you return at 8 p.m., and ask the agency to speak to your neighbour and suggest headphones or a lower volume. These details make the complaint relevant and give the agency practical options. The explanation of the start is somewhat unclear, however: the problem is said to have begun two days ago, then linked to your neighbour having college holidays, without making the timing explicit. The effect on you is also expressed generally as disturbing your “mind peace,” rather than describing a specific consequence such as difficulty sleeping or concentrating. Clarifying these points and developing the impact a little further would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a sensible overall sequence: it introduces the complaint, explains the circumstances and impact, and ends with a request for action. Connectors such as “However,” “Therefore,” and “But” help show the relationships between ideas. Some transitions are less smooth, and the long central paragraph combines the start of the problem, your work schedule, the noise, and the requested solution. The contrast in “this does not affect me in the mornings” is not especially useful because the complaint concerns late-night noise. A clearer paragraph break before the requested action, along with more direct links between the timeline and its effects, would improve progression. The closing request also repeats the earlier request to resolve the matter.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and make a polite request, including phrases such as “bring your attention,” “unbearable,” and “take some action to resolve the matter.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “much needed mind peace,” though this expression is not natural in English. Several spelling and word-choice errors—“habitaul,” “distubed,” “alot,” and “unnecesary”—reduce accuracy, while “loud music the games has” is an awkward way to describe the sound. Choose more natural collocations such as “draw your attention to,” “disturbed by the noise,” and “peace of mind.” Greater accuracy with common complaint-related vocabulary would make the message clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “when,” “as,” and “whenever.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the request is expressed politely. Some grammatical errors are present, however. In “I am writing to bring your attention to one of the problems I am facing for the past two days,” the time phrase needs a present-perfect construction, and “the games has” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “I share the same apartment with my neighbour” is also structurally confusing because it suggests that you share a flat with the neighbour. Review tense choices for ongoing situations, agreement, and sentence boundaries; these corrections would improve control while preserving your range of structures.
