Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am one of the customer who rented flat from your accommodation agency. I am writting to express the disturbance caused by neighbours. Apparently, I got to know they rented the flat from your agency. I would like to bring an complaint to your notice, my neighbour plays very loud video games late at night.

This problem started with a sunday late night party which was hosted by neightbours . I convinced myself it 's a routine weekend party and would not lasts longer. Nevertheless, it continued everynight .

The noise is so loud which disturbs my night sleep , effecting my lifestyle and health. Due to sleepless nights , i could not focus on my work.

I would like to request to inform the tenant about the inconvinence caused . Could you please request to reduce the volume and maintain quiet environment . This would help me to lead a peaceful life and have good sleep at night.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three required points: you identify when the disturbance began, explain its effect on your sleep and work, and ask the agency to contact the tenant and request lower volume. The impact is especially clear in “I could not focus on my work.” However, the start of the problem is not fully clear: you describe a Sunday party, then say the gaming continued every night, without specifying how long ago this began. The requested action is also somewhat general; you could ask the agency to remind the tenant of quiet hours or follow up if the noise continues. These relevant ideas are present, but some are less fully developed than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the complaint, describe its beginning, explain its effects, and make a request. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and connectors such as “Nevertheless” show the change from expecting a one-off party to experiencing ongoing noise. Some links are less smooth, however. The opening repeats the neighbour information, and “This problem started with a Sunday late night party” does not connect clearly to the later claim that the noise continued every night. The final request is understandable but could be organised into more specific steps. Clearer sequencing and less repetition would make the progression more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to a formal complaint, including “disturbance,” “inconvenience,” and “peaceful life,” and the reader can understand the main problem. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, as in “writting,” “neightbours,” and “inconvinence.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “bring an complaint to your notice” and “maintain quiet environment” do not sound idiomatic in this context. “Effecting my lifestyle” is not the intended expression; “affecting my daily life” would be clearer. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling, while retaining the appropriate formal tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “I convinced myself it’s a routine weekend party and would not lasts longer” and “Due to sleepless nights, I could not focus on my work.” The meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. In the first sentence, the tense shifts awkwardly and “would not lasts” should be “would not last.” There are also article and agreement problems in “I am one of the customer” and “I would like to bring an complaint,” while “The noise is so loud which disturbs…” has a faulty clause structure. More consistent tense control and careful checking of articles and sentence construction would improve accuracy.
