Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter regarding loud noise coming from our neighbour's apartment which is unit number 207 late at night.

Since three days I heard loud noise coming from our nieighbour flat and it sounds like someone is playing video games. This sound comes after midnight also they scream when they get more excited.

Usaually I go to work early in the morning though I sleep early at night, however our neighbour start playing games around mignight. So, these disturbs my sleep as well as I have a child who wakes up at night due to loud voice.

As you are the same agency who works in the building, I would like to infrom you that please inform our neighbour as it is bothering us. As well as tell them to avoid making noise late at night, we understand that they play for fun but it is disturbing our sleep.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours Sincerely,

Jinal Prajapati.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose: you identify the late-night gaming, explain its effect on your sleep and your child, and ask the agency to contact the neighbour and request quieter behaviour. The detail that the noise began “three days” ago and occurs around midnight makes the complaint specific, while the early work start explains why it matters. Your request is clear, though it could be more fully supported by asking the agency to follow up if the disturbance continues or to remind the tenant of quiet-hour rules. Overall, the relevant ideas are extended with useful personal context.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the complaint, describes when the noise occurs, explains its impact, and then states the action you want. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and the opening and closing are suitable for a formal letter. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. In “This sound comes after midnight also they scream,” the relationship between the two details is not clearly signposted; a connector such as “and” or “in addition” would help. The request paragraph also joins several instructions with “As well as,” making the sequence slightly awkward. Cohesion is generally effective, but clearer sentence links and reference would make it more polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-specific vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “video games,” “late at night,” “disturbing our sleep,” and “inform” the agency. The meaning is generally understandable, but the range is limited and some choices or spellings reduce precision and formality. For example, “loud voice” is less natural here than “loud voices” or “shouting,” and “works in the building” does not clearly express the agency’s role as the landlord or manager. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “nieighbour,” “Usaually,” and “infrom.” More precise complaint-related phrases and careful proofreading would strengthen the vocabulary control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, such as the explanation beginning “Usually I go to work early in the morning.” However, several sentence structures and verb forms are inaccurate, and these errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas harder to follow. “Since three days I heard” needs a different time construction, such as “I have been hearing this for three days,” while “our neighbour start” requires subject–verb agreement. In “these disturbs my sleep,” the demonstrative and verb do not agree, and “I would like to inform you that please inform” combines two incompatible patterns. Aim for accurate, complete sentences before adding more complex clauses, and check tense, agreement, and punctuation.
