Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you about a problem which I am facing at my building that needs your attention.
First of all, from past few weeks my next door neighbour is creating a lot of trouble. Everyday, especially during night hours he starts playing video games with a bunch of other people, which is very irritating. Sometimes, they were laughing and arguing which turns to fighting, that was totally scary.
Moreover, I am a full time worker and my workplace is little far from my place. Therefore, I have planned my routine accordingly. However, beacuse of this disturbance I barely get my sleep, which is affecting badly in my work as well as my health. As I couldn't able to concentrate on anything and that is highly concerning.
I understood that, they also took your agency's services for getting this apartment. Hence, I am requesting you to please arrange a meeting with them and try to resolve the issue ASAP. If the issue persist in the future, please give them notivce to vacate the place.
Thanks you for your understanding and hoping for a promp action from your side.
Yours faithfully,
Paul

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you say the noise began “from past few weeks,” explain that lost sleep affects your work and health, and ask the agency to meet with the neighbour and take further action if the problem continues. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally appropriate for a formal complaint. The impact on you is supported with relevant details about your work routine, while the requested action is specific. To strengthen the response further, make the start of the problem more precise and explain the desired first step or outcome more fully—for example, asking the agency to remind the neighbour of quiet hours and confirm what action it will take. The account of the noise could also be developed without relying on a broad description such as “a lot of trouble.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the complaint, describe the neighbour’s behaviour, explain its effect, and then make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Therefore,” and “However” guide the reader through your reasoning. The overall organisation is easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however: “Therefore, I have planned my routine accordingly” does not clearly explain the link between your work schedule and the noise, and “As I couldn't able to concentrate” is awkwardly attached to the preceding point. A few transitions feel formulaic rather than necessary. Use more direct links between cause and effect, and ensure each paragraph develops one connected point before moving to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to explain the complaint and its consequences, including “disturbance,” “concerning,” and “resolve the issue.” These choices make the main message clear, and the formal request is understandable. There are some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “creating a lot of trouble” is vague for loud gaming, “fighting” may overstate what you mean by arguing, and “give them notivce to vacate the place” is not a natural way to describe a formal warning. Spelling slips such as “beacuse,” “notivce,” and “promp” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise complaint-related phrases and check spelling carefully; this will make the letter sound more professional and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the contrast introduced by “However” and the conditional request beginning “If the issue persist in the future.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the reader can follow the complaint. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “from past few weeks” needs an article and a more suitable preposition, “they also took your agency's services” uses an awkward tense and structure, and “I couldn't able to concentrate” combines incompatible forms. There are also punctuation and spacing slips, including the missing space after “place.” Review verb patterns and article use, and proofread sentence boundaries so that complex ideas remain accurate.
