Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my strong disatisfaction with the behaviour of the residents who rented the apartment from your agency.

So, this issue became a concern to me a while ago when i realised, in my apartment, there were some loud noises coming from the adjoining apartment at night time. At that time, I thought maybe they will stop after a while but it never happened. Same happened the next day, I was trying to work on my projects around mid-night and then they started playing the games and high-volume music again.

Now, It's been almost two weeks and this is getting worse now. When i asked them kindly to turn the volume down they said they will do but after i came back the increased it again.

All of this hinders me to focus on my work chores and other tasks. Moreover, It is making trouble in my sleeping schedule too as i am going to my work being tired.

It would be really appreciated if you consider this and take action on this problem as fast as possible. If this can be solved either by a request or a ban could be made than late-nights loud-music should be banned.

Yours truly,

Diksha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose: the noise began around two weeks ago, it disrupts your work and sleep, and you ask the agency to intervene. The examples of trying to work around midnight and feeling tired at work help explain the impact, while mentioning that you have already spoken to the neighbours gives useful context. To make the request more fully developed, specify a practical action, such as contacting the tenants, reminding them of quiet hours, or enforcing the tenancy rules. The final suggestion about a ban is difficult to interpret, so state clearly whether you want late-night gaming and music restricted. Overall, the relevant ideas are clear, though the proposed solution could be more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a sensible overall sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe how it started, explain its effects, and finish with a request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “Moreover” make the added effect on sleep clear. This gives the reader a coherent account. However, some links are awkward or repetitive, including “So, this issue” and “Same happened the next day,” and the shift from describing the neighbours’ response to the impact on your routine could be smoother. The closing request also combines several ideas without a clear relationship. Use more precise transitions and organise the final paragraph around one specific action to make the progression more consistently controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its effects, including “adjoining apartment,” “high-volume music,” and “sleeping schedule.” However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. “Disatisfaction” is misspelled, “work chores” does not express your intended meaning naturally, and “take action on this problem” would be better phrased as “take action to resolve this problem.” The phrase “a ban could be made than late-nights loud-music should be banned” is especially unclear. Aim for accurate, conventional expressions in a formal complaint, and check spelling and word forms. A more precise vocabulary range would make your request sound more professional and easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and longer sentences, including a conditional request and explanations of cause and effect. The main message remains understandable, but errors occur across sentence structures, verb forms, and punctuation. For example, “after i came back the increased it again” has an unclear subject and incorrect verb form; “they said they will do” needs a clearer reported-speech construction; and “if this can be solved either by a request or a ban could be made than…” does not form a complete, controlled conditional sentence. Capitalisation of “i” and “It's” is also inconsistent. Practise building shorter, accurate sentences first, then combine ideas with correctly formed clauses and punctuation.
