Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to make you aware about a concern which currently I am facing at late night. I am a respectful tenant at your place residing at 128 Woodridge Crescent from last 3 years.

I would like to bring forward to you about a problem that starts 2 weeks ago, from my neighbour, which lives just next door from me, at your premises. She just moved month ago and plays videos game with intense volume till late night.

I have to go to my workplace early in the morning because I have to catch bus on time to travel at my company. However, Loud noises from video games disturbes my sleep frequently which results disruptions in routine of my next day schedule.

I would like to request to you to send an email to resident about situation that other tenants are facing due to loud noise. Moreover, I would also like to suggest to remind her about noise and property rules.

I look forward to your attention to this matter at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for your time and consideration

Yours faithfully,

Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain that the issue began two weeks ago, describe the effect on your sleep and next-day routine, and ask the agency to contact the neighbour and remind her of the rules. The purpose and polite tone are clear. The impact is relevant, but could be developed with a specific example of how often the noise continues or how it affects your work. Your requested action is also somewhat limited: asking for an email and a reminder is clear, but you could state what follow-up you expect if the noise continues. This covers the task well overall, while some ideas remain less fully developed than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the concern, give its background, explain its effect, and make a request before closing politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “However” and “Moreover” show relationships between ideas. Some connections are less smooth, particularly the transition from the neighbour’s recent move to when the problem began; clarifying that timeline would improve progression. The request paragraph also combines two actions without explaining whether one should follow the other. Overall, the organisation is coherent, though a few links and references could be more precise and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a suitable range of formal letter vocabulary, including “bring forward,” “disturb,” “routine,” and “at your earliest convenience.” However, several word choices or collocations sound unnatural or make the message less precise, such as “aware about a concern,” “at late night,” and “plays videos game.” “Intense volume” is also not the usual way to describe loud gaming. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the complaint, but they are noticeable and limit the naturalness of the letter. Aim for accurate, conventional combinations such as “make you aware of,” “late at night,” and “plays video games at a high volume.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example the sentence beginning “However” and the clause “because I have to catch bus on time.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. In “a problem that starts 2 weeks ago,” the past-time reference calls for a past-tense verb; “which lives just next door from me” also has an unclear relative reference. There are agreement and form errors in “noises … disturbes” and “disruptions in routine,” while “I would like to request to you” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. Review tense consistency, subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb patterns, and check punctuation around sentence openings.
