Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to let you know about a problem that I have been experiencing due to noise coming from your neighbouring appartment for that last few weeks.

I have often heard loud footsteps, sound of furniture being moved and loud music playing late at night. The music usually continues late at night, especially on weekends. I recognize that everyone have different schedule, but the level of music has become quite disturbing.

This has been challenging due to my work as I work early in morning so i need an uninterrupted night sleep. Regretably it has been ardous for me to fall asleep and concentrate on work. I am feeling exhausted and less productive at work.

I would request you to please have a friendly talk with them to keep the noise ta a minimum level, especially after 10 p.m. If they are planning to have guests or moving furniture , It can be done earlier in the morning.

I am sure we can find a solution that works for both of us.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. I am sure we would be able to resolve this matter in a friendly way.

Yours sincerely,

Madiha Iqbal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you identify the noise as a recent problem, explain that it disrupts sleep and affects your work, and ask the agency to speak with the neighbour and set a quiet-time expectation. The impact is particularly clear in “I am feeling exhausted and less productive at work.” However, the start of the problem is only described as “the last few weeks”; a more precise indication of when it began would make this point fuller. There is also some mismatch between the task’s specific issue—late-night video games—and your references to music, footsteps and furniture. Your request is polite and relevant, but could be more explicit about what action you expect if the noise continues. The response is purposeful, with some details that could be developed more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the complaint, describe the noise and its effects, then make a request and close politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “This has been challenging due to my work” connect the problem to its consequences. Some progression is less smooth because the opening refers generally to noise, while the next paragraph lists several different sounds without clearly distinguishing the main late-night issue. The closing also repeats the idea of resolving the matter in a friendly way. To make the organisation more controlled, keep each paragraph focused on one task point and use references such as “this noise” consistently to connect the details.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “uninterrupted night sleep,” “disturbing,” “exhausted” and “cooperation.” These choices communicate the effect of the noise and maintain a generally polite tone. There are also attempts at more formal wording, such as “I would request,” though some combinations are not natural or precise: “ardous for me to fall asleep” and “keep the noise ta a minimum level” weaken fluency. Spelling errors such as “appartment” and “Regretably” are noticeable, as is the unclear phrase “your neighbouring appartment.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and proofread spelling; more precise vocabulary for the video-game noise would also keep the complaint closely focused.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, for example the explanation beginning “This has been challenging due to my work as I work early in morning” and the conditional “If they are planning to have guests…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “everyone have different schedule,” where the subject and verb do not agree and the noun needs a determiner, and “I work early in morning,” which is missing an article. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “i” and “It,” and punctuation around “furniture” is uneven. Review agreement, articles and sentence punctuation, then check each sentence for a complete, natural structure. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
