Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to draw your attention to my neighbor's careless behaviour. He is staying in the next unit #1608 on my floor and has rented the flat with your agency as well.
My neighbor plays video games with tremendously loud volume at night. Initially, I wasn't facing any such issues but it all started during the summer break.
I am not able to sleep properly because of this loud noise at night. And due to my disturbed sleep, in morning I am running late for my daily chores.
I would highly appreciate, if you could step in to the matter and take my griviences to my neighbor. Please advice them to maintain the volume level at night during late hours.
Thanking you in advance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three required points: you identify when the noise began (“during the summer break”), explain that it disrupts your sleep and morning routine, and ask the agency to intervene. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally appropriate for a formal complaint. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The timing is vague, and the effect on your daily life is only briefly described; you could specify how often the noise occurs and give a concrete example of its impact. Your request could also be more precise, such as asking the agency to contact the neighbour and ensure quiet hours are respected. The response is 13 words below the required minimum, so it needs further relevant detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the neighbour and the complaint, explains when the problem began, describes its effect, and ends with a request. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “Initially” and “because of this” make the sequence easy to follow. The opening and closing also make the format recognisable as a formal letter. To make the organisation more polished, connect the consequences more smoothly: the sentence beginning “And due to my disturbed sleep” feels somewhat detached from the previous point. You could also group the request and the specific action you want into a fuller final paragraph. Overall, the message is logically arranged and easy to understand.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “draw your attention,” “disturbed sleep,” and “step in.” These choices make the purpose clear, and the reader can understand the problem throughout. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision. “Tremendously loud volume” is awkward, while “take my griviences to my neighbor” does not clearly express your intended request; “griviences” is also misspelled. “Careless behaviour” sounds accusatory before you have described the issue in detail. Aim for precise, natural collocations suited to a formal letter, such as “excessive noise,” “raise my concern with,” and “address the disturbance.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and the main meaning remains clear. For example, “I am not able to sleep properly because of this loud noise at night” correctly links the cause and effect. Some grammatical errors remain. In “I would highly appreciate, if you could,” the comma is unnecessary and the conditional phrase needs a more natural structure: “I would appreciate it if you could.” The sentence beginning “And due to my disturbed sleep” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and “in morning I am running late” needs an article and a more suitable tense. These issues do not prevent understanding, but checking sentence completeness and article use would improve accuracy.
