Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you about the inconvenience I face in my apartment due to excessive noise from my neighbour apartment late at night.
I have been facing this problem from last week as a few people come at late night in my neighbour's place and they play video games till morning. Moreover, I have informed about the situation and requested not to do this, but I did not see any change in behaviour.
I work for a multination company in a moring shift because of excessive noise it has became difficult to take good sleep which also affect my performance at work.
Taking effective action such as giving warning or sending appropriate mail would be great help. I am not against their meeting but performing such activity in living room while maintaing noise would be great for everyone.
I hope you would take action at your earliest convenience.
Your faithfully,
Parthik Pethani

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, polite purpose throughout. The timing is stated as “from last week,” the effect is explained through disrupted sleep and reduced work performance, and you ask the agency to issue a warning or send a message. You also acknowledge the neighbour’s right to meet, which helps keep the request reasonable. These details make the letter relevant and sufficiently developed. To strengthen it further, clarify the requested action and make it more specific—for example, ask the agency to contact the neighbour and remind them of quiet hours. The suggestion about using the living room is less clear and does not directly explain how noise would be controlled.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible sequence: you introduce the complaint, explain when it began, describe its impact, and then request action. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “because of” help connect related points. The purpose remains easy to follow overall. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “I have informed about the situation” and the final suggestion about meeting in the living room. The long sentence beginning “I work for a multination company” also joins several ideas without clear punctuation. Use clearer transitions and divide related points into shorter sentences; this would make the organisation more fluent and the relationships between ideas more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its consequences, including “excessive noise,” “requested,” “performance at work,” and “take action.” The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make parts less natural or precise: “neighbour apartment,” “moring shift,” “good sleep,” and “maintaining noise.” “Multination company” is also not the usual expression. Aim for more accurate phrases such as “my neighbour’s flat,” “early-morning shift,” and “get enough sleep.” Checking spelling and choosing standard collocations will make your meaning clearer and help you express the complaint more professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because of excessive noise” and a contrast in “I am not against their meeting but…”. The main message is understandable, but errors occur across several sentence patterns and sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “I have been facing this problem from last week” has an incorrect time construction, while “it has became difficult” and “which also affect my performance” contain verb-form or agreement errors. The sentence about your work and sleep also needs clearer punctuation and structure. Practise accurate tense and agreement patterns, and separate long sentences into complete clauses; this will improve control while preserving your attempts at complex grammar.
