Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writting this letter to complain about loud noise from neighbour during late at night. I have been hearing noisy video game sound after midnight since a month. Intially, I thought it was temporary, however the noise keep getting louder and goes on for extended hours.

As you are aware, I am an early bird. My day starts at 6 am sharp, therefore this is causing significant disturbance to my sleep cycle.I am not able to go back to bed once I am up due to constant blasting music sounds. Additionally, I have been having migranes too, so it is impacting my health and further ruining my entire day.

Consequently, I am requesting you to send warning letter to the respective tenant, asking him to lower volume or play games during day times. Moreover,Can you please have a conversation with him as well about his actions and its implications.

I am looking forward to your promt response.

Yours faithfully,

Najmin Manga

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: the noise began about a month ago, it disrupts your sleep and affects your health, and you ask the agency to contact the tenant and issue a warning. The complaint remains focused, and the details about starting your day at 6 a.m. and experiencing migraines help explain the impact. Your requested action is also clear, although the suggestion that the neighbour play games during the day could be framed more diplomatically or as a request to observe quiet hours. To strengthen the letter further, develop the agency’s next steps slightly—for example, ask it to confirm what action it will take if the noise continues. Overall, the purpose and position are clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a logical progression: you introduce the complaint, explain its effects, and then state what you want the agency to do. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “Consequently” help connect related points. The reader can follow the development without difficulty. Some transitions feel a little mechanical, however, and the final request combines two actions in a way that could be organised more smoothly. For example, present the warning and the request for a conversation as separate, clearly ordered steps. Also ensure punctuation spacing is consistent, as in “Moreover,Can,” so the presentation remains polished. The overall organisation is clear and effective.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to explain the complaint and its effects, including “significant disturbance,” “sleep cycle,” “constant,” and “implications.” These choices communicate the seriousness of the problem, and the meaning remains clear. Some word choices and collocations are less natural or precise: “noisy video game sound” could be expressed more idiomatically, while “blasting music sounds” does not accurately describe video-game noise. There are also spelling errors in “writting,” “Intially,” “migranes,” and “promt.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and polish. Aim for precise, natural phrases such as “loud gaming noise” and check spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “Initially, I thought it was temporary, however…” and the cause-and-effect sentence beginning “My day starts at 6 am sharp, therefore…”. Most ideas are understandable, and errors rarely obstruct the message. Some grammatical problems remain, particularly in verb forms and sentence construction: “the noise keep getting louder and goes on” should use consistent agreement and tense, while “I am requesting you to send” would be more naturally structured as “I am requesting that you send.” The sentence joining “Moreover” to the question also needs clearer punctuation and separation. Review agreement, clause linking, and punctuation to make your varied structures more consistently accurate.
