Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am Ritika Sajedah. I have been renting your house for last six months. I am writing to complain about excessive noise contineuously comes from my neighbour who has rent the house from you simultaneously.
Since last week, the loud noise of video games was affecting me and my family from the house which is next to us. First two days of it, we had informed them about it. Nevertheless, they were not paying attention towards it.
Moreover, It has caused inconvineance to me and my family members. After the hectic schedule in the workplace I could not relax, which affecting me while working in day, as I had not sleep well. This inconvineance has cause me at my work where i can not concentrate properly.
I would therefore appriciate if could request and say them do not disturbed after the allocated times at night and set the rules for the rest of the residents. Thus, no one can get disturbed due to the excessive noise.
Thank you for considering my request and I hople you will look into this matter and resolve it at your earliest convineance.
Your Faithfully,
Ritika Sajedah.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a suitably polite complaint. You identify when the issue began (“Since last week”), explain its effect on your family’s sleep, relaxation and concentration at work, and ask the agency to intervene by speaking to the neighbour and setting rules. These details make the purpose clear. Some points are less fully developed: the timing is not specific beyond “last week,” and the request to set rules “for the rest of the residents” is broader than the immediate problem. To strengthen the response, specify the late-night hours and ask for a clear, practical action, such as contacting the neighbour and enforcing quiet hours. The letter already shows some development, but greater precision would make the request more effective.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the complaint, describes the start of the problem, explains its effects, and ends with a request and courteous closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “I would therefore” signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are awkward or unclear. For example, “First two days of it” does not clearly explain when you spoke to the neighbour, while “Thus” introduces a result that is not fully connected to the request. The repeated references to “inconvenience” also make the progression feel less smooth. Use more precise time references and connect each paragraph directly to the next step in your complaint.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “excessive noise,” “complain,” “concentrate,” and “resolve this matter.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main issue and its impact. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “contineuously,” “inconvineance,” “appriciate,” and “hople.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “has caused inconvenience to me” and “request and say them.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully, especially in a formal letter. A more precise range of expressions for the noise, its effects, and the action requested would make the message clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional request (“I would therefore appreciate if…”) and a sentence explaining the effect on your work. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence structure and verb forms are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For example, “noise … comes” needs a clearer clause structure, “which affecting me” lacks a finite verb, and “as I had not sleep well” has an incorrect verb form. The request sentence also needs a complete structure, such as “I would appreciate it if you could ask them not to disturb residents after quiet hours.” Practise forming complete clauses and checking tense and verb patterns in longer sentences.
