Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to complaint regarding a continous distruption from my neighbour because, he usually plays video games late nights.

It has been two weeks that this issue is going on without taking any appropriate actions from him. Although I have informed him that it create nuisance, he has not changed his habit till yet.

I could have ignored it if I would not had to prepare for my forthcoming examination. Due to exams burden, it is infeasible for me to manage all distraction, and he particularly makes it more challenging for me to concentrate whenever I try to prepare for it. Additionally, I work part-time at a superstore. Therefore, I am unable to swith my study time to mornings.

I had attempted to provide him a solution to wear headsets that he refused to opt.So I would appreciate if you could send him a written warning, which undoubtedly will resolve this issue.

Thank you for your time, and I hope that you will take prompt action against this problem.

Yours faithfully,

Ymm

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three required points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose: you explain that the disturbance has continued for two weeks, describe its effect on exam preparation and your work schedule, and request that the agency send a written warning. The explanation of the impact is particularly well supported by the detail that you cannot move your study time to mornings. Your request is also specific and actionable. To make the response more fully developed, clarify when the noise occurs—for example, the particular late-night hours—and whether it happens every night. The opening and closing are suitably formal, although “Dear Sir or Madam” would match the requested greeting and avoid assuming the recipient’s gender.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the complaint, explain its duration and effect, then make a request and close politely. Linking expressions such as “Although,” “Additionally,” and “Therefore” help show relationships between ideas, and the progression is easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in connecting points. However, a few links feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely: “Although I have informed him…” is not clearly contrasted with the duration, while “Therefore” does not quite explain why your part-time work prevents morning study. Separate the background, effects, and requested action into clearer paragraphs, and use more direct transitions to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range to explain the complaint and its consequences, including “continuous disruption,” “forthcoming examination,” “concentrate,” and “written warning.” These choices communicate the situation clearly, and the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. You also attempt more specific language, though some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “exams burden,” “manage all distraction,” and “opt” in “refused to opt” do not sound natural in context. There are also spelling errors, including “continous,” “distruption,” and “swith.” Proofread carefully and choose familiar, precise collocations—for example, “exam pressure,” “cope with distractions,” and “refused to wear them”—before attempting less common phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “Although,” “if,” and “whenever,” and the main message remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction and verb forms. For example, “I am writing to complaint” should be “I am writing to complain,” and “it create nuisance” needs subject–verb agreement and an article (“it creates a nuisance”). The conditional “if I would not had to prepare” is also faulty; use “if I did not have to prepare” or recast the sentence. In “It has been two weeks that this issue is going on,” the tense pattern is inaccurate. Review verb forms, agreement, articles, and conditional structures, then proofread punctuation and spacing around sentence boundaries.
