Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the accommodation that I rented from your agency last month, which has caused me considerable inconvenience and frustration.

Regarding the problems, actually, the issues are not with my accommodation, but my left house family who is also your client regualrly making louse noise till the mid night by playing music and doing party in the backyard.

These problems have caused me sonsiderable inconvenience. My son's school examination is on next Monday and this noise is distracting his studies. In addition, due to this noise, my family members are not able to sleep effectively.

I would be grateful if you could investigate this matter and take action to resolve these problems at your earliest convenience. Alternatively, I would appreciate it if you could provide me with the oppoetunity to a replacement house.

I sincerely hope you will take my complaints into consideration and address these issuses promptly. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the central issue—a neighbour making noise late at night—and explain two effects: your son’s exam preparation is disrupted and your family cannot sleep properly. You also request that the agency investigate and take action, so the letter is relevant to the situation. However, the task is only minimally addressed in important respects: you do not say when the neighbour’s behaviour began, and the opening focuses on dissatisfaction with your own accommodation rather than clearly introducing the neighbour’s noise complaint. The request for a replacement house is also not clearly justified or prioritised. To make the response more complete, state when the noise started and specify the practical action you want, such as contacting the neighbour and enforcing quiet hours.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the complaint, describes its effects, makes a request, and closes politely. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “In addition” and “I would be grateful if” guide the reader. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. “Regarding the problems, actually” is an awkward transition, and the opening says the accommodation caused inconvenience before the next paragraph clarifies that the issue is the neighbour. The alternative request for a replacement house also shifts the focus without explaining how it relates to the proposed investigation. A more direct opening and clearer links between the complaint, its effects, and the requested action would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a suitable range of complaint-related language, including “considerable inconvenience,” “distracting his studies,” “investigate this matter,” and “at your earliest convenience.” These expressions help communicate the seriousness of the problem and maintain a formal tone. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “left house family” is unclear, “making louse noise” is not an appropriate phrase, and “replacement house” may not accurately express the accommodation you want. There are also misspellings such as “regualrly,” “sonserable,” and “issuses.” Choose straightforward, accurate wording—for example, “the family next door regularly makes loud noise”—and proofread carefully so errors do not distract from your complaint.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, such as the opening relative clause (“which has caused me…”) and the conditional request (“I would be grateful if you could…”). Most of the message remains understandable, and the polite request structures are generally controlled. Some grammatical errors remain, including the incomplete construction “my left house family who is also your client regualrly making…,” where the clause lacks a correctly formed main verb. In “My son's school examination is on next Monday,” the article and preposition pattern is inaccurate, and “my family members are not able to sleep effectively” is an awkward construction. Build complete clauses and check articles, verb forms, and prepositions; these revisions would improve accuracy while preserving your useful sentence variety.
