Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to have your attention in a serious issue. I live in Flat number 445, Ashram society, west Malaad, Mumbai. Last year, I got this rented apartment through your agency. Recently my family and I is in a great distress because of our neighbour, who is also happens to be your client living just a one door away with flat number 447.

It has been a month now, he is coming late at night and creating a lot of nuisance in the society.

To be more specific, he keeps partying all the time that creates enormous noise due to loud music, which further lead to the disruption of sleep. He also disturbs the students to study.

Last week, society members have requested him to stop this kind of behaviour, but it seems that he does not care.

Nevetheless, I request you to kindly intervene in order to stop his ill-mannered behvaiour. As an agency manager I expect your goodwill to fulfil your responsibilities and prevent further escalation in this regard.

Thanks

Yours faithfully.

Tahir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three required points: it says the problem began “a month” ago, explains that the noise disrupts sleep and students’ studying, and asks the agency to intervene. The complaint is relevant and the reader can understand the requested action. However, some details are less fully developed than others. The account of the noise shifts from late-night video games in the prompt to “partying” and loud music, so it does not clearly describe the specific gaming problem. The requested intervention is also broad; you could ask the agency to contact the neighbour, remind them of quiet hours, or take further action if the noise continues. These additions would make the purpose more precise and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The information follows a generally sensible order: you introduce the tenancy and neighbour, explain when the disturbance began, describe its effects, and finish with a request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish the background from the complaint and closing. Some links between ideas are less clear or slightly mechanical, however. For example, “It has been a month now, he is coming late at night” joins two ideas without a clear grammatical or cohesive link, and “Nevertheless” does not express a contrast with the preceding sentence. The letter would progress more smoothly if each paragraph had a clear focus and transitions such as “Since then” or “Although residents have spoken to him” were used to show the relationships between events.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “disruption of sleep,” “intervene,” and “further escalation.” These choices communicate the seriousness of the issue, and the meaning remains clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “have your attention in a serious issue” is not a natural collocation, while “ill-mannered behaviour” sounds more judgemental than necessary for a letter to an agency. Spelling slips such as “Nevetheless” and “behvaiour” also reduce accuracy. Aim for direct, neutral wording that describes the disturbance and its impact, rather than labelling the neighbour; this will make the complaint sound more professional and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex sentences, such as the sentence explaining that loud music disrupts sleep. The main message is understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “my family and I is” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “who is also happens to be” combines two verb forms incorrectly. The sentence beginning “It has been a month now” also needs a clearer structure, such as “For the past month, he has been coming home late and making a great deal of noise.” There are further issues with tense and sentence construction in “society members have requested him.” More consistent control of agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy.
