Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to complain you about noise issues from neighbours who also rents their flat from your agency.
This problem began around a week ago. Firstly ,I ignored this because i was adjusting in the new apartment. They always play video games late at night at very loud voice. I tried to talk with them but they ignored all concerns.
My work schedule is early mornings. So,it has become difficult to tolerate this issue anymore. This not only impacts sleep routine but also increases health problems. My productivity at work has decreased due to lack of proper sleep and focus which may be result in sudden job loss for me.
I would appreciate it if you could resolve this issue. Firstly, you should give them a polite warning. Secondly, you should remind them about written contract and policies about noise levels. Please let me know if you need any help from my side.
I look forward to hearing back soon.
Thank you for your time and understanding.
Yours Sincerely,
Simerjeet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose. You identify when the issue began (“around a week ago”), explain its effects on sleep, health and work, and request specific action: a warning and a reminder about noise policies. The detail about your early work schedule helps explain why the disturbance is particularly serious. To make the response more fully developed, clarify whether the neighbours’ gaming began a week ago and give a more measured account of the possible job consequences; “sudden job loss” is a strong claim without supporting detail. A brief request for the agency to follow up or enforce quiet hours would also make the proposed resolution more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce the complaint, describe its duration and your attempts to address it, explain the impact, and then state what you want the agency to do. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and phrases such as “Firstly” and “Secondly” make the requested actions easy to follow. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and “Firstly” is used both to introduce the background and to list the agency’s actions. The transition from the failed conversation to the effects on your work could also be smoother. Use a wider range of natural links, and ensure each paragraph develops one stage of the complaint without relying on repeated sequencing words.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for explaining the complaint and its consequences, with useful phrases such as “early mornings,” “lack of proper sleep,” and “written contract.” You also attempt more formal language, including “productivity” and “resolve this issue.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “complain you about noise issues,” “at very loud voice,” and “adjusting in the new apartment” do not sound idiomatic. “Health problems” and “issue” are also quite general. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but more precise, natural expressions would improve control and formality. Focus on learning common collocations for complaints and noise disturbances.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of short statements and longer sentences, including a cause-and-effect structure in “My productivity at work has decreased due to lack of proper sleep and focus.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “neighbours who also rents” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “This not only impacts sleep routine” needs an article or possessive determiner. The sentence beginning “This problem began” also contains inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation, and “which may be result” has an incorrect verb pattern. Review agreement, articles, and punctuation, and proofread sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these forms would make your varied sentence structures clearer.
