You rent a flat from an accommodation agency. Your neighbour who rents their flat from the same agency plays very loud video games late at night.
Write a letter to the accommodation agency. In your letter
explain when the problem began
describe how the noise affects you
say what you would like the agency to do
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction regarding the problem which I faced last night. The extreme noise was coming from the adjacent room.
The actual problem started around 10:30 p.m., when I was attending a meeting on the computer. It was a very important meeting with my client.
I was on the speakerphone, and explaining the meeting points. However, I was not able to explain my points to the customer because of the disturbances coming from the next room. Additionally, I had to exit the meeting, and left the home for the peace.
I would be very happy if you would take the necessary action on this issue. And if possible, could you please give me a better option for a room in the same area or the same building?
I would be extremely happy to hear from you as soon as possible.
Yours respectfully,
Chirag Prajapati

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address the three requested points: you identify the noise as coming from the adjacent flat, explain that it disrupted an important client meeting, and ask the agency to take action or offer another room. The impact is clear and relevant, especially when you say you had to leave the home. However, the account of when the problem began is limited to “last night” and around 10:30 p.m.; it does not clarify whether this was the first occurrence or when the ongoing problem started. The requested action is also somewhat general, and the alternative-room request could be explained more clearly. The letter is purposeful and covers the task, but fuller detail on these points would make the response more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the complaint, describes the incident and its effect, then makes a request and closes politely. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and linking words such as “However” and “Additionally” guide the reader through the consequences. Some connections are less smooth: “And if possible” begins a sentence fragment-like continuation of the request, while “the problem which I faced last night” does not clearly connect the single incident to an ongoing neighbour-noise issue. The progression is understandable, but cohesion occasionally feels mechanical or imprecise. To strengthen it, connect the request in one complete sentence and use clearer references to distinguish the noise problem from its effects.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for a formal complaint, with phrases such as “express my dissatisfaction,” “necessary action,” and “as soon as possible.” The reader can understand the situation throughout. However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural for this context: “the problem which I faced” is vague, “disturbances” is less natural than a direct reference to noise, and “a better option for a room” does not clearly express the accommodation you want. “Speakerphone” and “meeting points” also do not add much precision to the complaint. Aim for more specific collocations associated with noise and agency action, while avoiding repeated general terms such as “problem” and “issue.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the time clause “when I was attending a meeting” and the conditional request “if you would take the necessary action.” Most of the message remains easy to follow, and the past-tense account is generally clear. Some grammatical and punctuation issues remain. In “I had to exit the meeting, and left the home,” the verb forms are not parallel; use “exit … and leave” or “exited … and left.” The sentence beginning “And if possible” is an incomplete continuation, and “I was on the speakerphone, and explaining” has an awkward structure. Revising these constructions and checking parallel verbs would improve accuracy while preserving your range.
