You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in regards with the late night disruptions caused by my neighbour while playing video games.

I have been noticing some unwanted sounds coming from the flat number 102 which is just next my room. This has been the case since his friend moved in with him early this week. They apparently have been playing games on the computer late night with all the windows open, due to which the noise reaches my bedroom.

I have to wake up early to go to work, for which I need to sleep as soon as I am done having my dinner. This disturbance is not allowing me to get to work on time and has affected my sleep schedule.

I would request your team to send some sort of warning letter to him in order to get this matter sorted.

Looking forward for the prompt action.

Kind Regards,

Xyz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three required points: you identify when the noise began (“early this week”), explain its effect on your sleep and punctuality, and request that the agency send a warning. The purpose is clear and the tone is appropriately formal. The explanation that the neighbour’s friend moved in gives useful context, while the impact on your work makes the complaint relevant. To develop the ideas more fully, specify the hours or frequency of the gaming and describe the practical action you would prefer if a warning does not resolve the problem, such as contacting the neighbour or enforcing quiet hours. This would make the requested outcome more precise and better supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression: it introduces the complaint, explains its cause and timing, describes the effect on you, and ends with a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “This has been the case since” and “due to which” connect information. The reader can follow the message without difficulty. Some connections are less natural or precise, however: “for which” makes the relationship between waking early and needing sleep slightly awkward, and “Looking forward for the prompt action” does not form a fully natural closing link. Use more direct transitions and a conventional closing sentence, such as “I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.”

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for a formal complaint and includes relevant expressions such as “late night disruptions,” “disturbance,” “sleep schedule,” and “warning letter.” These choices communicate the issue clearly, and the tone is generally suitable. Some collocations and phrases are inaccurate or less natural, which limits precision: “in regards with” is not the usual form, “next my room” is awkward, and “Looking forward for” uses the wrong expression. “Unwanted sounds” is also less specific than “noise” or “loud gaming noise.” Aim to use familiar formal collocations accurately rather than adding phrases that sound formal but do not fit naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “which is just next my room” and the reason clause beginning “since his friend moved in.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the sentence structures allow you to explain cause and effect. Some grammatical errors persist, including the preposition pattern in “in regards with,” the missing preposition in “next my room,” and “Looking forward for the prompt action,” which is an incomplete sentence with an incorrect preposition. The long sentence beginning “I have been noticing” also combines several ideas in a way that is difficult to control. Practise accurate preposition patterns and use shorter sentences where several details are involved.
