Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to inform you that I am rented a flat from your accommodation agency but I have to register complaint. I would like to explain the situation and provide some relevant details.
To begin with, I would like to mention that my neighbour who also rent their flat from your agency, and they plays very loud music. Also, they are playing video games throughout late night. I would also include that their voices disturb me at late night and I cannot take enought sleep at night because of disturbance.
Furthermore, I am working from home and sometimes I am also working at night as well. This is particulary important because I am on meeting with my colleagues, and this voice also disturbing in our work. I believe that other neighbours in our floors are also making complaint.
I would appreciate it if you could look into this situation and resolve this problem as soon as possible. Please let me know if any further information is required.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Janvi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The letter identifies the central issue—late-night noise from a neighbour—and explains that it disrupts your sleep and work meetings. It also makes a clear request for the agency to investigate and resolve the problem. However, the task is only minimally addressed in important respects: you do not say when the noise began, and the request is general rather than specifying a practical action, such as contacting the neighbour or enforcing quiet hours. The opening also says “loud music,” although the prompt concerns loud video games, which makes the complaint less precise. To strengthen the response, state when the behaviour started and clearly explain what action you expect the agency to take.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure: an opening complaint, paragraphs describing the disturbance and its effects, and a closing request. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal the progression, and the final request is easy to locate. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the second paragraph combines several points without a clear distinction between the neighbour’s gaming, voices, and the effect on your sleep. The reference to other neighbours is also introduced abruptly. Group related details more clearly—for example, describe the noise first, then its effects—and use transitions that show the relationship between each point rather than simply adding information.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “disturb,” “resolve this problem,” and “further information.” There are also attempts at more formal language, such as “relevant details” and “time and consideration.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “register complaint” needs an article or a more natural phrase, “their voices” is unclear in this context, and “this voice” does not clearly identify the noise. Spelling errors such as “enought” and “particulary” also reduce accuracy. Choose precise complaint-related expressions and check spelling; for example, refer consistently to “the noise from the neighbour’s gaming” and its impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, such as “This is particularly important because…” and “I would appreciate it if…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. Examples include “I am rented a flat,” “my neighbour who also rent,” and “they plays”; these should be revised to forms such as “I rent a flat,” “my neighbour also rents,” and “they play.” The sentence beginning “my neighbour …, and they plays” is also awkwardly joined. Review subject–verb agreement and use complete, well-formed clauses when describing the neighbour and the effects of the noise.
