Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my concern regarding a loud noise, which is coming from my neighbourhood flat. However, I have been facing this issue since last week, and I already infromed them and requested to play video game with low volume.
The actual affects of this unusual noise cause the disruption in my sleep. Moreover, I am morning a person and I have to start my job early in the moring. If I am not getting enough sleep, I can not concentrate at work and feel tired all day.
So, this is my humble request to you that you must communicate with the tenants regarding on this matter. Furthermore, advise him to maintain the volume of the video games, specially at the mid-night.
Your propmt actions on this matter would be highy appreciated. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points: you identify that the noise began “since last week,” explain that it disrupts your sleep and affects your concentration at work, and ask the agency to contact the tenants and advise them to lower the volume. The purpose and requested action are clear, and the formal opening and closing suit the situation. Some details are less fully developed, however: it is not clear whether the neighbour’s gaming started last week or whether that is when you first noticed the problem, and the request could specify a practical step, such as reminding the tenants of quiet hours or following up if the noise continues. Clarifying these points would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe its effects, and then make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” guide the reader through your points. Some connections are less natural or precise, though. “However” does not clearly contrast with the preceding statement, while “So” is rather conversational for this formal letter. The reference in “I already informed them” is also unclear because the reader may not know whether “them” means the neighbours or the agency. Use more precise references and simpler, purposeful transitions to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to a formal complaint, including “express my concern,” “disruption in my sleep,” and “concentrate at work.” These phrases communicate the main problem and its consequences. However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors limit precision: “the actual affects” is unclear, “I am morning a person” does not express your meaning naturally, and “maintain the volume” is not the usual way to request quieter gaming. There are also misspellings such as “infromed,” “moring,” “propmt,” and “highy.” Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “the noise affects my sleep,” “I am an early riser,” and “keep the volume down,” and proofread carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, for example the conditional sentence “If I am not getting enough sleep, I can not concentrate at work.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors persist. In “I already infromed them,” the past-tense verb needs the auxiliary “have” if you mean this is a recent action; “the disruption in my sleep” also needs a clearer grammatical construction, such as “disrupts my sleep.” The request “advise him to maintain” lacks a clear subject after the preceding sentence, and “regarding on this matter” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. Work on complete sentence structures, verb forms, and prepositions to improve accuracy.
