Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir,

I would like to put your lights on my situation. Last week, I rented an accommodation from your company named as Northstar Accommodation Management. The Living property you gave us really appreciable and authentic for us, accept people who lived nearby us. The problem begins in the night from 8.00 pm and it constantly happens till 1.00 am. Sometime after 2.00 am.

Furthermore, we lived with family members including peer groups as well as senior citizens. Me and my wife can bother those people, but not kids and oldage people. The real problem is playing music in a loud way. THe first day we faced this situation, we tolerate it, but not everyday. Kindly think about children and aged people and take some strict actions against them.

We will appreciate and thankful your work.

Your Sincerly,

Saksham.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main issue—late-night noise—and give a time range, from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m., sometimes later. You also explain that it disturbs children and older family members and ask the agency to take action. However, the task is only partly addressed: the start of the problem is unclear, since “Last week, I rented” describes when you rented rather than when the noise began, and the effect on you is not clearly explained. The request for “strict actions” is also vague; specify a practical step, such as contacting the neighbour or enforcing quiet hours. The response is 11 words below the required minimum, which limits the development of these points. Use the full letter format and address the agency appropriately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic letter structure, with an opening, two body paragraphs and a closing. The ideas about the noise and the people affected are grouped together, and “Furthermore” signals an addition. However, progression is not consistently clear: the first paragraph moves from renting the flat to describing its quality and then to the noise, while the second shifts between family members, music and a request. Some links are unclear, particularly “Me and my wife can bother those people,” which makes the intended relationship between the ideas difficult to follow. Organise the letter around the three requested points—when the noise started, its effects, and the action sought—and use clear references and transitions rather than relying on a few connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “loud,” “senior citizens,” “children” and “strict actions,” so the reader can identify the general complaint. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the message difficult to interpret. “Put your lights on my situation” does not convey the intended request, and “The Living property… really appreciable and authentic” is unclear in this context. “Peer groups” and “oldage people” are also unsuitable or unnatural descriptions of the household. Choose direct, conventional language for a formal complaint, such as “bring this matter to your attention,” “the flat is well maintained,” and “older residents.” Check spelling and capitalisation, including “sincerely” and “The.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, for example, “The problem begins in the night from 8.00 pm and it constantly happens till 1.00 am.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the intended meaning hard to follow. In “Last week, I rented an accommodation,” the article and tense do not clearly express the intended situation; “we have been renting a flat” may be more suitable. The sentence “Me and my wife can bother those people, but not kids and oldage people” has an unclear structure and pronoun use. There are also problems with agreement and sentence construction in “We will appreciate and thankful your work.” Practise accurate sentence patterns for explaining effects and making requests, and proofread punctuation and capitalisation.
