Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this to complain about my neighbour who plays video games on very high volume at night time.
Until now, everything was good however, since last week they have been playing video games at maximum sound. It causes me disturbance in my sleep cycle. Because of this I cant wake up with full energy and it cause bad efact on my work. Moreover, I have a very young child who can't tolerate loud sounds.
I hope you will take action and contact them and make request to reduce sound specially in night time. Or you will find me some other location in the same budget.
I am waiting for your responce.
Your Faithfully,
Vivek

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the complaint, explain that the noise began last week, describe its effects on your sleep, work and young child, and request that the agency contact the neighbour or find you another flat. These points are relevant, but they are brief and not fully developed: for example, you do not say how often or how late the gaming continues, and the requested action is not framed with much detail. The letter is also 32 words below the required minimum, so there is limited space to explain the situation and your preferred solution fully. Add specific details and clarify whether you would prefer the neighbour to reduce the noise before considering a move.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the complaint, explain when it began and its effects, then state what you want the agency to do. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Because of this” and “Moreover” help connect the consequences. The final request is understandable, although “Or” makes the two possible solutions feel abrupt rather than clearly prioritised. You could improve the flow by explaining the preferred action first and presenting relocation as a fallback. A fuller closing paragraph would also make the letter feel more complete, but the main ideas are already easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough relevant vocabulary to communicate the main issue, including “maximum sound,” “sleep cycle,” “loud sounds” and “reduce sound.” However, the range is limited and some expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “plays video games on very high volume” and “make request.” Spelling errors in “efact” and “responce” are noticeable, while “night time” is repeated. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your complaint, but more accurate collocations and a little more variety would make the letter sound clearer and more appropriate for a formal request. Aim for precise phrases such as “excessively loud” and “submit a request.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including “Until now, everything was good however, since last week…” and “I have a very young child who can't tolerate loud sounds.” The meaning is generally clear, but errors occur in verb forms, sentence construction and punctuation. For example, “it cause bad efact” should use a correctly formed verb, and “I cant wake up” needs an apostrophe in “can’t.” The opening sentence also needs a more natural grammatical pattern (“at a very high volume”), and the sentence beginning “Until now” needs clearer punctuation around “however.” Practise checking subject–verb agreement and punctuation in longer sentences.
