Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my concern regarding an ongoing issue that I have been facing in my apartment for last few weeks. The neighbour who lives in front of my apartment plays extreamly loud video games late at night.
I am a full time busy professional, and my wife also works full time, as a result, we prefer to sleep within 10 O'clock. However, because of this loud noice we can not sleep properly for that reason we can not even wake up in the morning. I tried to communicate with my neighbour about this issue, he told me that its his son who plays video game during midnight, and he will let his son know. For the few days it was fine, now it has started again.
I would like you to speak with that tenant, and let them know how their negligence are affecting others people.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I am hoping to hearing back from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Jasmin Akter

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you say the noise has been happening “for last few weeks,” explain that it prevents you and your wife from sleeping and waking on time, and ask the agency to speak with the tenant. The account of your earlier conversation, including the temporary improvement, also gives useful context and supports your request. Your purpose remains clear throughout. To make the response more fully developed, specify the approximate hours or days when the gaming occurs and state a practical outcome you want, such as asking the tenant to keep the noise down after a particular time. The request could also be framed more diplomatically than “their negligence,” which may sound accusatory.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the problem, explain its effects and the previous attempt to resolve it, then make a request and close politely. The sequence from the neighbour’s promise to the noise returning is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “However,” “For the few days,” and “now” help show contrast and time. Some connections are less smooth: “as a result” joins ideas that would be clearer as separate sentences, and “because of this loud noise … for that reason” repeats the same causal link. The final request could also connect more explicitly to the impact described. More precise referencing and less repetition would make the progression feel more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “ongoing issue,” “express my concern,” “late at night,” and “communicate with my neighbour.” These choices make the purpose understandable, and the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision: “extreamly,” “noice,” and “its” are incorrect, while “full time busy professional” and “their negligence” are awkward or overly accusatory in this context. “Video games” is repeated, and the description could use more precise language about the noise and its timing. Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, and choose neutral wording when describing the neighbour’s conduct.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a relative clause in “The neighbour who lives in front of my apartment…” and a longer explanation of the effect on your household. The main message is generally understandable, but errors occur often enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “for last few weeks” needs an article, “we prefer to sleep within 10 O'clock” has an unsuitable construction, and “I am hoping to hearing back” uses the wrong verb form. The sentence beginning “I tried to communicate…” also joins several clauses with commas, making the structure difficult to control. Practise accurate articles, verb patterns and sentence boundaries, while keeping complex sentences shorter and clearer.
